ASHEBORO – Mary Miles Berry, 84, formerly of Westwood Drive, Asheboro, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008, at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.

The funeral was held Nov. 8, 2008, at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Lee Lautenschlegr officiating. Burial was in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Franklinville, the widow of Jasper Berry, was employed with Dixie Restaurant and was a member of Zion Praise and Worship Center.

Surviving are her sisters, Helen Steed and Jewel Wallace, both of Asheboro.

Susan Bossong

ASHEBORO – Susan Elizabeth Freeman Bossong, 74, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008, at her home.

The funeral was held Nov. 9, 2008, at First United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Michael Holder, Susan Mitchell and John Ogburn officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery.

She was a native of Randleman, a graduate of Salem Academy, attended Macon Woman’s College, graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a member of First United Methodist Church, former president of the Asheboro Public Library and was a member of the Historical Book Club of N.C.

Surviving are her husband, Charlie Bossong of the home; son, Brooks Freeman Bossong of Winston-Salem; daughter, Elizabeth Julian Bossong Russell of Asheboro; nine grandchildren.

Doris Y. Bridges

ASHEBORO – Doris Yates Bridges, 73, of 514 Vision Drive, Asheboro, died Monday, Nov. 3, 2008, at Carolina House in Asheboro.

A graveside service was held Nov. 5, 2008, at Randolph Memorial Park, with Charles Reeder officiating.

She was a native of Davidson County, retired from Asheboro City School Systems and was a member of Central Falls Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, W. Carlton Bridges of Asheboro; daughter, Carolyn Bridges Craven of Asheboro; son, William C. Bridges Jr. of Mooresville; sister, Barbara Yates Hardister of Concord; six grandchildren.

Theron Burrow

ASHEBORO – Theron Augusta Burrow, 78, of 206 S. Stout St., Randleman, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008, at his home.

A memorial was held Nov. 9, 2008, at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel in Asheboro, with the Rev. Richard Hill officiating.

He was a native of Randolph County, a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict and formerly was a self-employed paint contractor.

Surviving are his wife, Gladys Lee Furr Burrows; daughter, Penny Burrows of Badin Lake; son, Jimmy Burrows of Randleman; sisters, Ruth Maness of Virginia, Geneve Callicutt of Franklinville and Betty Lou Spivey of Randleman; brothers, Henry Carvey Burrow Jr. of Randleman and James Burrow of Mississippi; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.



Blanch G. Cecil

RAMSEUR – Blanch Goff Cecil, 100, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008, at Universal Healthcare.

The funeral was held Nov. 5, 2008, at Forbis & Dick Pleasant Garden Chapel. Burial was in Lakeview Memorial Park, with the Rev. Rex Pollard officiating.

She was a native of Saluda County, S.C., the widow of Claude L. Cecil and a member of 16th Street Baptist Church.

Surviving are her sons, David Cecil, Edward Lee Cecil, Neil Cecil; daughter, Faye Adams; 15 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren.

James Coleman

RAMSEUR – James Coleman died Friday, Oct. 31, 2008, at SunBridge of Asheboro.

The funeral was held Nov. 6, 2008, at First Pentecostal Church in Asheboro, with Elder Dean Staley officiating.

Surviving are his mother, Virginia Graves Marley of Ramseur; sister, Alice Mae Coleman of Norristown, Pa.; brothers, Jackie Coleman of Harrisburg, Pa., Raymond Coleman of Reading, Pa., and Daniel Coleman and Clarence Staley Jr., both of Ramseur.



Buddy Cranford

ASHEBORO – Wade “Buddy” Rufus Cranford, 61, of 718 Pleasant Cross Road, Asheboro, died Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, at Randolph Hospital.

The funeral was held Nov. 10, 2008, at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Perry Brown and Doug McCannon officiating. Burial was in Randolph Memorial Park in Asheboro.

He was a native of Randolph County and formerly employed with Dixie Furniture and Lexington Home Brand Furniture.

Surviving are his wife, Martha Alice Davis Cranford of Asheboro; son, Brian Keith Cranford of Cherryville; sister, Elaine Hill of Asheboro; brother, Mike Cranford of Asheboro; one grandchild.



Joe B. Duncan

LIBERTY – Joe Ben Duncan, 70, of 4195 Hedgeberry Lane, died Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008, at the Kindred Hospital in Greensboro.

The funeral was held Nov. 10, 2008, at Loflin Funeral Home Chapel in Ramseur with the Rev. Budd Rowe officiating. Burial was in Grays Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Surry County and a farmer.

Surviving are his wife, Lorene Chandler Duncan; sons, Danny Duncan of Cedar Falls, Robert Duncan of Asheboro and Dale Duncan of Whitsett; brothers, James Duncan of Lansing, Mike Duncan of Winston-Salem and Bobby Duncan of King; sisters, Doris Samms, Shirley Marshall, both of Pinnacle, Nancy Woods of Reidsville and Katherine Hill of King; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.



Nancy W. Fletcher

FRANKLINVILLE – Nancy Louise Wall Fletcher, 62, of 1111 Wall Country Drive, Franklinville, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.

The funeral was held Nov. 6, 2008, at Randleman Church of God, with the Rev. Troy Wilhelm and the Rev. Lee Carter officiating. Burial was in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Randolph County, worked part-time for Lemonds Tax Service and was a member of Randleman Church of God.

Surviving are her daughters, Maria F. Cooper Owens of the home, Gwen F. Sheets of Trinity; sisters, Alice W. Chaney Ireland, Barbara W. Britt Black, Carolyn W. Garner and Wanda W. Barnes Morgan, all of Franklinville; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Betty H. Goodman

DENTON – Betty Jane Hill Goodman, 78, of 5736 N.C. Hwy 49 South, Denton, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008, at her home.

A private service was held.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Harry K. Goodman, was a Seventh Day Adventist, a homemaker and was formerly employed with Acme-McCrary Hosiery.

Surviving are her son, Dennis A. Goodman of Indian Trail; sisters, Minnie Maness and Mary Strickland, both of Asheboro; brothers, J.B. Hill and Jim Hill, both of Asheboro, and Fred Hill of Pleasant Garden; one grandchild.



Irene S. Hall

ASHEBORO – Irene Smith Hall, 94, of Asheboro, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008, at Randolph Hospital.

The funeral was held Nov. 9, 2008, at Oakhurst Baptist Church with Dr. Richard Crider officiating. Burial was in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of King, the widow of Ezra Hall, a homemaker and a member of Oakhurst Baptist Church.

Surviving are her sons, Bob Hall of Leavenworth, Kan., and Kerry Hall of Asheboro; daughter, Teresa Salley of Asheboro; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.

ASHEBORO – Gretchen Hayes, formerly of Asheboro, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville.

The funeral was held Nov. 8, 2008, at Covenant Christian Church in Asheboro.

Surviving are her children, Vivian Hughes of Kinston, Ladene Hayes of Thomasville, Wyonia Davis and Grant Hayes II, both of Kinston, Laverne Hayes of Asheboro and Annette Hayes of Lusby, Md.; sisters, Elizabeth Ruffin and Betty Cooper; brothers, Sal Gladden, Leotis Gladden, Henry Gladden and Tommy Gladden; 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.



Emmanuel Isley

RAMSEUR – Emmanuel Isley died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008, at Randolph Hospital.

The funeral was held Nov. 9, 2008, at Oakland Baptist Church. Burial was in the Oakland-McCrary Cemetery in Ramseur.

Surviving are his wife, Joann Isley of the home; sons, Emmanuel “Keith” Isley, Dwight “Eddie” Isley and Bruce Isley; daughters, Shelby Isley Spinks, Pebble and Desiree Isley; brother, David Isley of Ramseur; sisters, Myrtle Kimes of Liberty and Rosetta Wright and Sarah Spinks, both of Ramseur; 10 grandchildren.



Ronnie T. Jackson

LIBERTY – Ronnie Thomas Jackson, 53, of 1490 Sandy Ridge Drive, Liberty, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008, at Randolph Hospital.

The funeral was held Nov. 7, 2008, at Grays Chapel United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Doug Miller and the Rev. Alana Harris officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Lee County, employed with Inland Traffic Control and was a member of Grays Chapel United Methodist Church.

Surviving are wife, Susan Carter Jackson of the home; stepdaughters, Anglea Burkholder and Sherri McDowell, both of Asheboro; mother, Emma Jean Thomas Jackson of Purlear; brother, Richard Jackson of Purlear; sisters, Linda Hopkins of Wilkesboro and Tammy Langdon of Sanford; five grandchildren.

William Jordan

LIBERTY – William Colon Jordan, 96, of Liberty, died Friday, Oct. 31, 2008, in West Grove, Pa.

The funeral was held Nov. 6, 2008, at Loflin Funeral Home in Liberty, with the Rev. Eugene Dean and the Rev. Bill Bigham officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery.

He was the widower of Lola Staley Jordan.

Surviving are his daughters, Ruth Jordan Carr of West Grove, Pa., and Peggy Jordan Hurley of Eden; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.

ROBBINS – Lloyd Douglas Kennedy, 40, of 251 Church St., died Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

He was a native of Randolph County.

FRANKLINVILLE – Jimmy Ralph Presnell, 56, of Franklinville, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008, at the Randolph Hospital.

The funeral was held Nov. 8, 2008, at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel with Jeff Buckles and Barry Presnell officiating. Burial was in Danner Cemetery.

He was a native of Watauga County and formerly employed with Clifford Estes Company in Staley.

Surviving are his wife, Lisa Bray Presnell; mother, Pauline Rominger Presnell of Ramseur; sons, Jimmy Wayne Presnell of Staley, Christopher Lowery and David Presnell, both of the home, and Richard Barnes of Liberty; daughters, Vickie Hicks and Barbara Presnell, both of Ramseur, and Jamie Presnell of the home; brothers, Barry Presnell of Liberty, Kenneth Presnell of Siler City, Jerry Presnell of Seagrove, Ray Presnell of Asheboro and Michael Presnell of Ramseur; sisters, Kay Stanley of Ramseur, Linda Barnes Franklinville, Connie Joyce of Asheboro and Joyce Baldwin of Ramseur; four grandchildren.

ASHEBORO – Gladys Branson Thornburg, 88, of 5527 Lassiter Mill Road, Asheboro, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.

The funeral was held Nov. 9, 2008, at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. J. Harold Hammond and the Rev. Joe Conley officiating. Burial was in the Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Val Thornburg, a retired food service worker with Farmer School and a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church.

Surviving are sisters, Mary Ellen Branson Pike and Rebecca H. Hurley, both of Asheboro; brother, Larry Hinshaw of Asheboro; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

STATESVILLE – Robert William “Bob” Troyer Sr., 82, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008, at his home.

He was a native of Canton, Ohio.

Surviving are his sons, Robert Troyer Jr. of Minerva, Ohio, and Larry Troyer of Statesville; daughter, Donna Ellis of Randleman; brothers, Russelly Troyer and Johnny Troyer, both of Ohio; sisters, Mildren Norse and Minnie Yutzy, both of Ohio; sisters, Mary Amen of Morganton; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.



William O. Ward

RAMSEUR – William “Will” Otis Ward, 90, of 1918 N.C. Hwy. 49 N., Ramseur, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008, at his home.

The funeral was held Nov. 7, 2008, at Mt. Olivet Wesleyan Church, with the Rev. A.J. Kendrick officiating.

Burial was in Deep River Baptist Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, employed with Burlington Mills in Asheboro and Klopman Mills in Ramseur, was a poultry, cattle and hog farmer, and attended Mt. Olivet Wesleyan Church.

Surviving are his wife, Lonna Phillips Ward of the home; son, Phillip Ray Ward of Ramseur; daughter, Cheryl Ward Wrenn of Franklinville; brothers, Robert Ward of Liberty; sisters, Mary McAtee of Newbury Park, Calif., and Rebecca Magruder of Lynchburg, Va.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held Nov. 8, 2008, at Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Larry Martin officiating.

She was a native of Randolph County, retired from Liberty Chair and was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church.

Surviving are her daughters, Norma Jean Williams of Staley and Carol Kidd of Glen Allen, Va.; sister, Ethel Hicks of Staley; one grandchild.
