Nancy L. Allred

ASHEBORO – Nancy Lee Allred, 57, formerly of 2680 Regan Road, Denton, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008, at SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation of Asheboro.

A graveside service was held Oct. 30, 2008, at Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Randolph County, retired from Fox Apparel in Asheboro and was a member of Whitehall Evangelical Methodist Church.

Surviving are her parents, Emmett and Mary L. Allred; sisters, Regina Anthony and Bonita Allred; brother, Anthony Allred.

Christopher A. Bartkiewicz

ASHEBORO – SPC Christopher A. Bartkiewicz, 25, of Asheboro, was killed in action Sept. 30, 2008, in Baghdad, Iraq.

A memorial service was held Nov. 1, 2008, at Full Gospel Bible Church of God in Franklinville, with Pastor Terry Batchelor officiating.

He was serving in the U.S. Army as a Specialist E-4 in the Infantry Division as part of Task Force 1-6. He was stationed in Baumholder, Germany.

Surviving are his daughters, Casey Hatley of Asheboro and McKayla and Morgan Bartkiewicz of Illinois; mother, Darlene Smith of Staley; sisters, Melissa Owens of Ramseur, Samantha Bartkiewicz of Burlington and Krystle Brown of Asheboro.



Onnie Baldwin Belding

ASHEBORO – Onnie Estelle Baldwin Belding, 91, formerly of Cliff Road, Asheboro, died Friday, October 31, 2008, at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.

The funeral was held Nov. 3, 2008, at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Garry Reeder officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County, the widow of Julius Joseph Belding, graduated from Mills Home, now the Baptist Children’s Home, was formerly employed with Glenn L. Martin Aircraft during World War II and was retired from Bossong Hosiery Mill.

Surviving are her daughters, Jan Moxley of Pittsboro and Barbara Vrany of Hampstead, Md.; son, Joe Belding of Hillsborough; sister, Connie Smith of Clarksburg, W.Va.; five grandchildren; four grandchildren.

Colleen B. Bulla

ARCHDALE – Colleen Marie Brower Bundy Bulla, 81, died Friday, Oct. 31, 2008.

The funeral was held Nov. 4, 2008, at Sechrest Funeral Service Chapel in Archdale, with the Rev. Tim R. Lowry officiating. Burial was in Floral Garden Memorial Park.

She was a native of Richmond County, the widow of James Williams Bundy and Edsel Bulla, a member of Balfour Baptist Church and retired from Fiber Dynamics.

Surviving are her daughter, Marie B. McCall of Archdale; son, James William Bundy Jr. of Denton; sisters, Clara Mae Nance of Asheboro, Faye Allen of Star, Iris Hill of Denton and Margaret Comer of Seagrove; brother, Clifford Brower of Archdale; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Slappy Davis

RANDLEMAN – Robert Sylvester (Slappy) Davis, 79, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008.

The funeral was held Nov. 2, 2008, at Cedar Square Friends Meeting, where he was a member, with Pastor Eric Woods and Pastor Ben Hurley officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, a farmer, founder of Davis Feed and Supply, and Cedar Square Oil Company, a charter member of New Market Civitan Club and a U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are his wife, Donna Welborn Davis of the home; son, Ryan Davis; daughters, Teresa Bowers, Judy Kallam and Jill Andrews; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Charlie H. Gillis

SEAGROVE – Charlie Herbert Gillis, 76, of 312 Beane Road, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital in Troy.

The funeral was held Nov. 3, 2008, at Asbury Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, with the Rev. Joshua Hughes officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery, with military honors conducted by the Randolph Honor Guard.

He was a native of Montgomery County, a retired upholsterer and U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

Surviving are his wife, Della Hancock Gillis of the home; daughters, Judy Ingle of Asheboro, Deborah Gillis of Bardstown Ky., Tina Mabe of Star and Deliah McCaskill of Biscoe; brothers, Paul Gillis of Goldsboro and Bobby Gillis of Seagrove; one grandchild; two step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild.

Geri W. Grape

ASHEBORO – Geri Ila Whaler Grape, 58, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008, at Randolph Hospital.

No services were held.

She was a native of Tampa, Fla., attended Cristobal High School in the Panama Canal Zone and graduated from Lakes High in Tacoma, Wash., in 1968.

Surviving are her sisters, Joyce Hibberts of Randleman, Diana White of Clearmont, Fla., and Jackie Oliver of Chesapeake, Va.

Gary M. Hodge

ASHEBORO – Gary Mel Hodge, 51, of 1798 Panther Creek Road, Asheboro, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.

The funeral was held Oct. 29, 2008, at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Lee Ellis officiating. Burial was in South Plainfield Friends Meeting Cemetery.

He was a native of Baltimore, Md., employed with Cox Motor Lines in Greensboro and formerly employed with Ramtex and Burlington Industries.

Surviving are his parents, Clifford and Peggy Hodge of Baltimore, Md.; sisters, Vicki Fain of Baltimore, Md., and Teresa Lyons of Belton, Texas; brothers, Rodney Paul Hodge of Sophia, Clifford Gaston Hodge Jr. of Wilmington, and Gilbert Terry Hodge and Jimmy Hodge, both of Asheboro.



Douglas E. “Dude” Kennedy

TRINITY – Douglas Edward “Dude” Kennedy, 62, of 4206 Cameron Court, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, at the Hospice Home at High Point

He was a native of Knoxville, Tenn., and an employee of Thomas Built Buses.

Surviving are daughters, Kim Spruill of Trinity; sisters, Cheryl McNeil of High Point and Myra Stuart of Ramseur; brother, Shane Kennedy of Trinity; two grandchildren.

Birton E. Kyser

ASHEBORO – Birton Earle Kyser, 79, of 460 Sawyersville Road, Asheboro, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, at SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation of Asheboro.

A graveside service was held at Hanover, Mass.

He was a native of Hanover, Mass., and was a U.S. Navy veteran.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Kyser; daughter, Janet Pate of Bolton, Conn.; sons, Birton Kyser Jr., of West Nottingham, N.H., and John Kyser of Manchester, Conn.; sister, Ruth Emery of Middleboro, Mass.; nine grandchildren; seven grandchildren.

Richard D. Lamb

ASHEBORO – Richard Dalton Lamb, 59, of 4303 Waynick Meadow Road, Asheboro, died Friday, Oct. 31, 2008, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.

A memorial service was held Nov. 3, 2008, at Pugh Funeral Home in Asheboro, with the Rev. David Bowman officiating.

He was a native of Davidson County, a U.S. Navy veteran, worked in sales with Kagan’s Furniture in High Point and was a private investor.

Surviving are his wife, Cathy Mespelt Lamb of Asheboro; daughter, Heather Soja of Asheboro; son, Gabriel “Gabe” Sands of Randleman; mother, Betty Lamb of Thomasville; brothers, David Lamb of Asheboro and Ronald Lamb of Thomasville; four grandchildren.

Charles J. Loflin

DENTON – Charles Junior Loflin, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, at his home in Denton.

A graveside service was held Nov. 1, 2008, at First Baptist Church of Eldorado in Troy, with the Rev. Charles Moses officiating.

He was a native of Randolph County and a heavy equipment operator with the N.C. Department of Transportation.

Surviving are his wife, Audrey Loflin of Denton; mother, Verlie Wood Loflin of Denton; sister, Regina Poole of Denton.



Barbara L. Lucas

ASHEBORO – Barbara Gail Luther Lucas, 57, of 6007 High Pine Church Road, Asheboro, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008, at High Point Regional Hospital in High Point.

The funeral was held Oct. 30, 2008, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel in Asheboro, with the Rev. Wyatt Hoogkamp officiating. Burial was in Randolph Memorial Park in Asheboro.

She was a native of Randolph County, formerly employed with Drs. Bryan and Cheryl Freeman and was a member of High Pine Wesleyan Church.

Surviving are her husband, Jerry Lucas of the home; daughter, Brooke Kidd of Asheboro; brother, Roger Luther of Asheboro; two grandchildren.



Flora D. McMillian

LIBERTY – Flora Dixon McMillian, 87, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, at her home.

The funeral was held Nov. 2, 2008, at Liberty First Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Gene Booker and the Rev. Brian Harrington officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery.

She was the widow of Lowell Mason McMillian.

Surviving are daughters, Judy Duncan of Cumming, Ga., and Patty Sadler of Virginia Beach, Va.; sisters, Florence Cox and Myrtle Lewallen, both of Asheboro; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.



Karen P. McNeill

GRAHAM – Karen Puryear McNeill, 45, of 732 Oakgrove Drive, Graham, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.

A private service was held.

She was a native of Alamance County, a knitter for Bossong Hosiery and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are her sons, Kristopher McNeil and Jonathan McNeill, both of Seagrove; brother, Ricky Puryear of Haw River; one grandchild.



Truman O. Nance

ASHEBORO – Truman O. Nance, 66, of 2227 Hopewell Friends Road, Asheboro, died Friday, Oct. 31, 2008, at Randolph Hospital.

The funeral was held Nov. 3, 2008, at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel in Asheboro, with the Rev. Daniel Thames officiating. Burial was in Hopewell Friends Meeting Cemetery in Asheboro, with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.

He was a native of Randolph County, a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and was retired from Pugh Oil Company.

Surviving are his wife, Martha Bowers Nance; daughter, Anissa Nance Lowe of Asheboro; son, Jefferey D. Nance of Lumberton; brothers, Everette Nance Jr., Ira E. Nance and Clinton C. Nance, all of Asheboro; sister, Evelyn N. Stout of Asheboro; two grandchildren.

Jimmy Rehe

ASHEBORO – James “Jimmy” Russell Rehe, 69, of 231 Spencer Meadow Road, Asheboro, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, at his home.

No services were held.

He was a native of Morganton, W.Va., was the retired owner and operator of R & R Pest Control and served in the U.S. Air Force.

Surviving are his wife, Joan S. Rehe of the home; daughter, Lisa Barton of Warren, Mich.; sons, Ronald Paul Sandor of Westland, Mich., and Jeffrey Brian Sandor of Ferndale, Mich.; sister, Marsha Ann Brown of Troy, Mich.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

John F. Wall

SOPHIA – John Franklin Wall, 85, a resident of 3996 Level Plains Road, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, at his home.

The funeral was held Nov. 4, 2008, at Sophia Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bill Barnes and the Rev. Elwood Faircloth officiating. Burial was in Floral Garden Park Cemetery in High Point.

He was a native of Davidson County, formerly employed with Myrtle Desk Company and the Randolph County School System, was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, where he received two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart, and was a member of Sophia Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Grace Small Wall of the home; daughter, Judy Carolyn Dean of Trinity; son, Edward Franklin Wall of Sophia; six great-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Mabel G. White

SHALLOTE – Mabel Gwaltney White, 98, of Shallotte, formerly of Liberty, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008.

A graveside service was held Oct. 31, 2008, at Gilmore Memorial Park, with the Rev. Dr. Charles Adams officiating.

Surviving are her son, Kenneth White of Supply; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

ASHEBORO – Leola Grace Stout Williams, 89, of 3092 Old N.C. Highway 49, Asheboro, died Friday, Oct. 31, 2008, at SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation in Asheboro.

The funeral was held Nov. 3, 2008, at Science Hill Friends Meeting, with Brady Morrison and Allen Bullard officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Claude M. Williams, a member of Science Hill Friends Meeting and a homemaker.

Surviving are her daughters, Joyce W. Steelman and Gail W. Yates, both of Asheboro; son, Phil L. Williams of Garner; sister, Gladys Paul of Asheboro; brother, Carl T. Stout of Asheboro; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.
