Minnie L. Anderson
ASHEBORO – Minnie Jane Lambeth Anderson, 96, of 2308 Lambert Drive, Asheboro, died June 29, 2008, at Clapp’s Convalescent Nursing Home in Asheboro.
The funeral was held July 2, 2008, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Dickerson officiating. Burial was in Randolph Memorial Park.
She was a native of Davidson County, the widow of Jack Anderson, a member of Fayetteville Street Baptist Church and was retired from Bost Neckwear.
Surviving are her daughter, Elizabeth Cox of Asheboro; sisters, Sally Gallimore of Thomasville, and Hazel Briles and Magdalene Lambeth, both of Lexington; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.
John G. Bird Jr.
ASHEBORO – John Garnet Bird Jr., 67, of 786 McDowell Country Trail, Asheboro, died Friday, June 27, 2008, at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro.
A memorial service will be held.
He was a native of Alleghany County, Pa., a retired electrician, a U.S. Navy veteran, a member of the The Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Asheboro, and a member of the Masons, Dallas Lodge #231.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth Edwards Bird of the home; son, John E. G. Bird of Munhall, Pa.; daughters, Deborah Bird of Woodbridge, Va. and Janice Davern of Laurinburg; five grandchildren.
Vance Lee Campbell
RANDLEMAN – Vance Lee Campbell, 75, of 529 Worthville St., Apt. 15-A, died Friday, June 27, 2008, at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.
The funeral was held June 30, 2008, at Bailey’s Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jonathan Shook officiating. Burial was in Randolph Memorial Park.
He was a native of Guilford County, the widower of Mary Lucille Campbell, of the Baptist faith, formerly employed with Burlington Industries of High Point, Hatteras Yachts, Reids Trailers in Pleasant Garden and Campbell Landscaping.
Surviving are daughters, Karen Andrews of Staley, Phyllis Lucas of Asheboro, Tammy Campbell of White River Junction, Vt., Bonita Campbell of King, Cathy Brown of Trinity and Linda Jackson of Jacksonville, Fla.; sons, Mike Campbell of Ramseur and Ricky Kirkman of High Point; sisters, Virginia Young of Level Cross and Joyce Diane Prevette of Red Cross; brother, Billy Joe Campbell of Denton; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren.

SEAGROVE – Maurice Lewis Chriscoe, 81, of 4716 Busbee Road, died Saturday, June 28, 2008, at his home.
The funeral was held July 1, 2008, at Needham’s Grove Independent Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. James Cockram officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
He was a native of Moore County, the widower of Betty Cagle Chriscoe and was retired from Millikan of Robbins.
Surviving are his sons, Tony Chriscoe of Seagrove and Randy Chriscoe of Ramseur; daughters, Brenda Ritter of Robbins, Janice Hussey of Farmer and Marsha Clark of Ramseur; sisters, Juanita Luther and Marie Chriscoe, both of Asheboro, Edna Tillman of Hampton, Va., and Judi Rice of Salisbury; brothers, Graham Chriscoe, Colvin Chriscoe, Gilbert Chriscoe, B.J. Chriscoe, Clyde Chriscoe and Bradley Chriscoe, all of Seagrove, and Herbert Chriscoe of Glouester, Va.; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
Mitchell Cross
STAR – Frankie Mitchell Cross, 48, died Friday, June 27, 2008.
The funeral was held June 30, 2008, at Cross Road Baptist Church in Asheboro, with the Rev. Howard McNeill officiating. Burial was in Shady Grove Christian Church Cemetery, Star.
He was a native of Randolph County, a graduate of Southwestern Randolph High School, a graduate of Lees McRae College, vice president of manufacturing at Klaussner Home Furnishings and attended Maple Springs Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Caroline Cagle Cross; daughter, Grace Cross of the home; son, Mitchell Cross of the home; mother, Frances Cross; sister, Cheryl Watson; grandparents, Woodrow and Grace Younts.
Irene B. Foust
STALEY – Irene Bennett Foust, 79, of 343 Shady Grove Church Road, died Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at Randolph Hospital.
The funeral was held June 28, 2008, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, with the Rev. Roger Riffe officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
She was a native of Randolph County, retired from Ramtex and attended Kildee Wesleyan Church.
Surviving are her husband, Numa “Gabe” Foust of the home; son, Eugene C. Foust of Staley; daughters, Audrey Elaine Gilmore and Evon Louise Foust, both of Staley; brothers, Floyd Bennett and Donald Bennett, both of Archdale; sister, Eilene Dameron of Sophia; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
Charles B. Fowler
RANDLEMAN – Charles Brantley Fowler, 68, of 7266 Vermont St., died Sunday, June 29, 2008, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.
A memorial service was held July 1, 2008, at Grace Baptist Church in Randleman, with the Dr. Marvin Patterson officiating.
He was a native of Guilford County, attended Grace Baptist Church and was a self-employed pool builder.
Surviving are his wife, Nina Lee May Fowler; daughter, Tammy Fowler of Randleman; stepsons, Jay Weilder of Reidsville, Donald Weilder of Ramseur; brother, Fletcher Fowler of Raleigh; five grandchildren.
Ed Gorrell
RANDLEMAN – Eddie Eugene “Ed” Gorrell, 58, of 6384 Lowe Road, Randleman, died June 4, 2008, at his home.
A graveside service was held June 29, 2008, at Randolph Memorial Park with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard and the Rev. Ron Kimble officiating.
He was a native of Guilford County and a U.S. Marine veteran of the Vietnam War where he received a Purple Heart.
Surviving are his stepfather, Robert Osborne Sr.; sisters, Lola May Weiss of Randleman and Shirley Goodwin of Asheboro; brothers, Edgar Lester Gorrell of Holly Ridge and William Thomas Gorrell of Meadow of Dan, Va.

SEAGROVE – Pauline Sykes Greene, 82, of 974 Hogan Farm Road, Seagrove, died Sunday, June 29, 2008, at Autumn Care of Biscoe.
The funeral was held July 2, 2008 at Dover Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Donald Davis officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
She was a native of Montgomery County, the widow of Dalton Greene, retired from Clayson Knitting, a life-time member of Dover Baptist Church and sang in the Dover Quartet.
Surviving are her son, Wayne Greene of Seagrove; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

ASHEBORO – Claudie Wrenn Hayes, 64, of 227 Holiday Dr., Salisbury, died Thursday, June 26, 2008, at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
A graveside service was held June 28, 2008, at Randolph Memorial Park in Asheboro, with the Rev. Jeff Joyce officiating.
He was a native of Randolph County and was employed with Jockey International in Mocksville.
Surviving are his daughter, Theresa Hayes King of Sophia; son, Timothy E. Hayes of Annandale, Va.; brothers, Milton G. Hayes of Salisbury and Bobby L. Hayes of Ramseur; two grandchildren.

ASHEBORO – Sarah Virginia McCallum King, 92, of 801 S. Main St., died Friday, June 27, 2008, at Randolph Health and Rehabilitation in Asheboro.
The funeral was held June 30, 2008, at Central United Methodist Church with Dr. Mark Key and the Rev. Barry Queen officiating. Burial was in Whynot Cemetery in Seagrove.
She was a native of Biscoe, the widow of James B. King, an active member of Central United Methodist Church and was retired from Acme-McCrary Corp.
Surviving are her sons, James B. King Jr. of Asheboro and Tommy King of Seagrove; daughters, Marian Player of Raleigh and Beth Kesler of Asheboro; four grandchildren.

FRANKLINVILLE – Charlene Richardson Lyerly, 81, of 2246 N.C. 22 North, Franklinville, died Sunday, June 29, 2008, at Universal Health Care in Ramseur.
The funeral was held July 1, 2008, at First Baptist Church of Franklinville, with the Rev. Steven Cox and the Rev. Kenneth McNeil officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
She was a native of Randolph County, retired from Black and Decker, a member of First Baptist Church in Franklinville, a volunteer for CUOC and a member of the Red Hat Society.
Surviving are her son, Al Lyerly of Monroe; sister, Luet Cranford of Ramseur; two grandchildren.

He was a native of Randolph County and was retired from B.B. Walker Shoe Co.
Surviving are his daughter, Annette Maness of Linwood; sons, Tony Maness of Asheboro and Jerry Lee Maness of Goldsboro; brothers, Nolan Maness and Hurley Maness, both of Asheboro, and Ellis Maness of Franklinville.
Herbert Maness
RANDLEMAN – William Herbert Maness, 86, formerly of Applewood Road, died Saturday, June 28, 2008, at Clapp’s Nursing Home in Pleasant Garden.
A graveside service was held July 1, 2008, at Randolph Memorial Park, with the Rev. J.B. Hussey officiating.
He was a native of Moore County, had worked at Klopman Mills and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Emma Maness of Pleasant Garden; daughter, Becky East of Randleman; son, Jackie Maness of Randleman; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
Phyllis “Landy” McCarty
RANDLEMAN – Phyllis “Landy” McCarty, 60, of 6168 Quail Hollow Drive, died Friday, June 27, 2008, at Randolph Hospital.
A graveside service was held June 29, 2008, at Sheffield Cemetery.
She was a native of Loudon County, Va., and was a bus driver for Randleman High School.
Surviving are her husband, Jimmy McCarty of Pleasant Garden; daughters, Kelly Myers, Brianna McCarty, both of the home. Belinda McCarty of Shantilly, Va., and Misty McCarty of Billton, Va.; sons, Jimbo L. McCarty of Winchester, Va., Troy McCarty of Summerfield, and William McCarty and Cody McCarty of the home; six grandchildren.
Edna Spivey McElhannon
RANDLEMAN – Edna Grace Spivey McElhannon, 93, of Randleman, died Friday, June 27, 2008, at Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation in Asheboro.
A graveside service was held June 29, 2008, at Randolph Memorial Park with the Rev. Arnold Luther officiating.
She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Pete N. McElhannon, retired from Laughlin Hosiery Mill and was a member of Midway Wesleyan Church.
Surviving are several neices and nephews.

ASHEBORO – Nannie Barbee Morton, 94, of 707 Comet Drive, Beaufort, formerly of Asheboro, died Sunday, June 22, 2008, at Carteret General Hospital, Morehead City.
The funeral was held June 26, 2008, at Central United Methodist Church, with Dr. Mark J. Key and the Rev. Barry L. Queen officiating. Burial was in Randolph Memorial Park.
She was a native of Richland, the widow of Leven Morton, a retired public schoolteacher and a member of Central United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her son, Ervin Morton of Greensboro; daughters, Ann M. Davis of Greenville and Janet M. Peterson of Raleigh; sisters, Martha Hodnette and Grace Frazier, both of Richlands; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Kenneth Dobson and John Neal, a member of First United Methodist Church, an assistant in the kindergarten program at Asheboro City Schools and was a Docent at the N.C. Zoological Park.
Surviving are her stepdaughters, Henriette “Hank” Neal Foster of Gastonia and Lucette “Luke” Neal Pilkes of Greensboro; sister, Margaret Lambert Wright of Asheboro;two stepgrandchildren.

ASHEBORO – Leonard Perretta Sr., 82, of Asheboro and formerly of Elmont, N.Y., died Friday, June 20, 2008, at Randolph Hospital.
A mass of Christian Burial, officiated by Father Christopher Davis was held June 28, 2008, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Asheboro.
He was a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and was a member of the American Legion.
Surviving are his wife, Angelina Perretta; sons, Anthony Perretta of West Chester, Pa., and Leonard Perretta Jr. of Randleman; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

He was a native of Randolph County, the widower of Viola Graham Spencer, retired from Acme-McCrary, and a member of Flag Springs United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his daughters, Patsy S. Conrad of Ramseur, Jane Pinnix of Asheboro and Sandra S. Baucom of Asheboro; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

She was a native of Randolph County and was retired from Stedman Corp.

ASHEBORO – James “Jim” Leonard Wilson Jr., 70, of Pine Grove Drive, died Monday, June 23, 2008, at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro.

He was a native of Campobello, S.C., attended Asheboro High School, was retired from Kayser-Roth Hosiery and was a member of New Hope Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Kathy Hogan Wilson of the home; daughters, Cindy Wilson of Butner and Donna Rogers of El Paso, Texas; sons, Michael Wilson and Christian Wilson, both of Greensboro; stepsons, Charles Keith of Lancaster, S.C., and Wesley Keith of Holly Springs; nine grandchildren.

She was a native of Randolph County and was retired from L & L Cleaners of Asheboro.
