RAMSEUR —
Powerful Victory Christian of Charlotte invaded Eastern Randolph High School last Friday night and handed the Wildcats their fifth straight defeat.
Cashing in on its opportunities, the Kings broke open the contest with a three-touchdown second period and went on to post a 42-7 victory. The loss left the hapless Wildcats at 0-5 as they closed out the nonconference portion of their schedule. VC improved to 3-1.
ERHS was leading 7-6 at the end of the first eight minutes but couldn’t cash in on a scoring opportunity as the final seconds of the first half ticked off.
A pass interception by Bradley Heath at the ER 5 and return to the 44 set up the lone ER score midway of the opening quarter. Three plays later QB Tucker Coward clicked with Khyri Crawford on a 18-yard gain and a first down at the Kings’ 38 yard line. Three plays later the duo teamed up again for 37 yards and a touchdown. The PAT kick gave the Wildcats a 7-0 lead with 4:09 remaining in the opening period.
Later in the quarter, VC took advantage of a big play. Quarterback James Harvin was nearly picked off but completed a pass to Nigel Johnson near midfield. Johnson raced down the sidelines for 71 yards to the endzone. The PAT attempt failed.
The second period presented big problems for ER as the Kings racked up three TDs and the Wildcats failed on a first-and-goal at the VC 4 in the final minute of the half. Following a punt, Victory Christian scored on the first play of the second stanza when Michael Stanton raced 32 yards for a TD. VC had taken a 12-7 lead at 11:43.
