RAMSEUR It was a standoff to make any defensive coach proud as Eastern Randolph High School and High Point Central met head-to-head on the gridiron last week at Wildcat Stadium.

It took five overtimes before the Bison were finally able to escape with a 12-6 victory. The loss left the Wildcats winless at 0-3 while Central improved to 3-0.

“I am very proud of these kids. They played hard,” ERHS Head Coach Burton Cates said.

After the 0-0 regulation standoff, each team was given four downs from the 10 yard line to post something on the scoreboard. ERHS attempted a 21-yard field goal in the fifth overtime, but the snap sailed high and holder Clint Batten had to fall on the ball at the 22.

High Point took over and Aldaquan Teasley ran the ball twice before cracking the endzone to provide the winning score.

Back in the third OT, each team lit up the scoreboard. The Wildcats took a brief 6-0 lead when Brandon Isley raced into the endzone from eight yards out. The PAT attempt failed.

High Point responded when Grant hauled in a 13-yard aerial from QB Drew Adams for a touchdown. The Bison PAT kick failed.

Central had a 9-7 advantage in first downs and 230 yards of total offense, with 175 coming in the air. The ER defense stopped the Bison on just 26 yards rushing. The Wildcats mustered just 100 in offense, 82 on the ground. Khyri Crawford led with 78 yards on 19 attempts.
