Rookie captures first NASCAR win
ASHEBORO —
Emotions ran high Saturday night as 16-year-old Ryan Wilson of Randleman climbed out of his race car in victory lane. After only eight races in the Late Model Stock ranks, Ryan Wilson Motorsports captured the Bud Pole Award and lead from green flag to checkered in the 100-lap Late Model Stock feature of Whelen Night at the races.
Tyler Green of China Grove captured his career best finish of second out of four total starts. Mack Little of Kernersville, Randy Benson of Rockingham and Pete Stewart of Randleman rounded out the top five.
“I am really excited to have a victory,” Wilson said. “It feels good to walk away with a win. I appreciate the support of the team, my sponsors and my family.”
In the 30-lap Limited Late Model event, Brent Weaver of Clemmons captured the win. Justin Newlin of Salisbury, Kevin Jones of Greensboro, Owen Gray of Oak Ridge and Josh Lowder of Archdale rounded out the top five finishers.
Gary Dillard of Lexington took home the 12-lap Cab Car win. In the 15-lap Mini Stocks, Bobby Smith Jr. of Lexington captured his first win. Michael Tucker of Thomasville, Pnut Vernon of Walkertown, Ronnie Kinney III of Lexington and Chad Sykes of Haw River rounded out the top five finishers. In the 15-lap Custom Steel Fabricators Super Mini Truck event, Glenn Chriscoe Jr. of Randlman took home the win. Scottie York of Asheboro, Carl Graves of Asheboro, Wade Turner of Asheboro and Bradley Gibby of Lexington rounded out the top five finishers.
