Tot Hill hosting annual teen tourney
ASHEBORO —
The annual Teen Challenge Golf Tournament will be played May 14 at Tot Hill Golf Club near Asheboro as a fund-raiser benefitting the Greater Greensboro Teen Challenge organization that helps young men with alcohol and substance abuse problems.
The Tot Hill tourney is one of two such funding events, the other being a late-summer tournament held at Grandover Resort near Greensboro.
Following a shotgun start at 9 a.m., the tournament will operate under a modified captain's choice format.
The entrance fee is $125 and includes cart, breakfast, range balls prior to play, lunch, soft drinks on the course during play and a goodie bag. Lunch will be cookout style available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. beside the 9th green.
Sixteen prizes will be awarded, including gross and net scores in five flights, closest-to-the-hole on five par-3s, and longest drive on hole 5. Details and more prizes are being considered and will be announced later.
Sponsors said players of all skill levels will have a chance at awards due to a handicapping system and that appropriate tees will be assigned according to age and other considerations.
Alan Martini, PGA professional at Tot Hill Golf Club, said all participants will have an enjoyable outing and praised the condition of the course.
"Tot Hill has received positive recognition by a number of golf publications on its excellent condition and we're proud of what our maintenance crew is doing on a year-round basis," he said. "The aesthetics of our Mike Strantz design and our diligence in keeping the course in tournament-level shape have enhanced our national reputation."
