Parent educator honored
ASHEBORO —
Amanda Ratliff, coordinator for the Franklinville Parents as Teachers program, was recognized at the 2008 Parents as Teachers Conference in St. Louis, Mo., on April 1. Ratliff, along with four other parent educators from Kentucky, Florida, Colorado and Oklahoma, accepted the Parent Educator of the Year award before conference participants representing early childhood, child care, health, mental health, social services, government and business professionals from across the nation and around the world.
Ratliff is a dedicated and tireless advocate for the Parents as Teachers program and for family literacy in Randolph County. She has been the Parents as Teachers coordinator for the Franklinville-Ramseur area for the last five years, a program funded by the Randolph County Partnership for Children with Smart Start and United Way of Randolph County funds and administered by Randolph County Library. Ratliff is based at the Franklinville Library.
The Parents as Teachers program, a home based model that serves families with children ages 0-4, focuses on building strong parental links with children and developing parenting skills in a positive manner. The Partnership for Children funds the Parents as Teachers program in several areas in Randolph County, including Asheboro, Liberty, Franklinville, Ramseur and Randleman.
