God answers the prayers of his faithful followers
In April, the Rev. Eva Brower Curtis and her congregation moved into their permanent home at 323 Sunshine Heights, N.C. 49 North in Ramseur.
The Rev. Curtis received salvation at Mt. Nebo Holiness Church in Ramseur under the leadership of Pastor Jerome Watson and joined the Church of God of Prophecy in Liberty under the leadership of Pastor Daisy Baines. Later she and her late husband, Johnnie Peoples, returned to her hometown of Ramseur and joined the Church of God of Prophecy in Ramseur under the leadership of Pastor Minnie McIver. After the death of her husband, the Rev. Curtis returned to the Church of God of Prophecy in Liberty.
Early in 1994, she was called by God to minister to the needs of his people and to preach his written word. She answered his call and preached her first sermon on the second Sunday of June 1994. Her topic was Do you know who Jesus is? Do you have a personal relationship with him? She continued to learn more about the word of God and to grow spiritually under the leadership of Bishop Donald Jessup.
Later she moved her membership to Rocky Rover Missionary Baptist Church of Siler City as associate pastor to the Rev. Earl Jeffers. The Rev. Jeffers encouraged spiritual growth and trained her to become a pastor for the flock God would later entrust to her. She was ordained on Oct. 7, 2001.
During the fall of 2002, God began to speak to her. He gave her a vision, a vision to win her family to the Lord. She accepted the call and that led to the birth of Outreach Mission Church. In the beginning on the fourth Sunday of each month, services were held for one hour in the Ramseur School cafeteria. The Rev. Curtis went throughout the neighborhoods calling on family and friends, leaving informative fliers and inviting people to those early services, much like Christ went out into the world to minister to the people.
The Rev. Curtis prayed for God to lead her to a place of worship. Her husband, Ricky, encouraged her to do what God was directing her to do. She put all her trust in God and stepped out in faith. With help from her family and friends, in May 2003 they moved into a meeting place on N.C. 22 in Ramseur.
As she continued to preach the word and lead others to Christ, her faith and trust remained in the Lord. In addition to providing a permanent place of worship, God has blessed the church with two associate pastors – pastors Ricky Farrar and Ernest Millinor. Pastor Eva and the members thank God for the many blessings he has given the church.
Everyone is welcome to join them each Sunday morning at 10 a.m. for Sunday School and 11 a.m. to morning worship. Bible Study is held each Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. and the doors are open each Saturday from noon to 1 p.m. for noonday prayer.
The Rev. Curtis is dedicated to serving God and the spiritual needs of her members. She does not hesitate to go when called to help anyone in need. She preaches with passion and from knowing and living the word. She encourages everyone to show love and to trust in God. “I’m just here to win souls for Christ,” she said.
She is the daughter of the late Elbert and Doris Brower. She and her husband Ricky Curtis are the parents of eight adult children, 16 grandchildren and two goddaughters.
