ASHEBORO - Annie Grace Dunn Allred, 93, of 551 Westminster Drive, died Sunday, May 18, 2008, at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro. The funeral was held May 21, 2008, at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Barry L. Queen officiating. A private burial was held at Randolph Memorial Park. She was a native of Star, the widow of John Dennis Allred, a member of Central United Methodist Church and was retired from Bossong Hosiery Mill. Surviving are her son, Charles Samuel "Sam" Allred of High Point; one grandchild. Memorials may be to Central United Methodist Church, 300 S. Main St., Asheboro, N.C. 27203.

ASHEBORO - Thomas Gerald Barrett, 75, of 1937 Scaley Bark Lane, died Friday, May 23, 2008, at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro. The funeral was May 26, 2008, at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel in Asheboro, with the Rev. Fran Adams officiating. Burial was in Randolph Memorial Park with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard. He was a native of Boyle, Miss., a 1956 graduate of Ole Miss, a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, retired from Eveready Battery and attended Calvary United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by a son, Lewis Kelly Barrett. Surviving are his wife, Jocelyn "Jo" Barrett; daughters, Kathy Barrett of Tallahassee, Fla., Kay Mull of Leesburg, Ga., Krissy Vail of Asheboro, Keri Peko of Chesapeake, Va., and Amy Berwick of Raleigh; sons, Kit Barrett of Panama City, Fla., Kurt Barrett of Salado, Texas, and Kyle Barrett of Middletown, R.I.; brother, Paul Barrett of Vicksburg, Miss.; sister, Althea Ann Murphy of Vicksburg, Miss.; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild. Jesse B. Bray STALEY - Jesse Burns Bray, 67, of 2969 Bumpass Road, died Thursday, May 22, 2008, at Randolph Hospital. A memorial service was held May 24, 2008, at Holly's Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church, with the Rev. Joseph Yarborough officiating. He was a native of Chatham County and was retired from Stuart's Furniture. Surviving are his son, Jody Bobb Bray of Contoment, Fla.; daughter, Christian Bray Brown of Staley; brothers, Larry Bray and Michael Bray, both of Franklinville, and Randal Bray of Asheboro; sister, Nancy Fisher of Sophia; three grandchildren.

ASHEBORO - Arnold Alfred Brooks, 78, of 243 Coleridge Road, died Friday, May 16, 2008, at Randolph Hospital. A graveside service was held May 20, 2008, at Salisbury National Cemetery in Salisbury, with the Rev. John Gullette officiating. He was a native of Morristown, Tenn., was retired from the City of Asheboro and had served in the U.S. Army. Surviving are his daughters, Betty Rogers of Rogersville, Tenn., and Evon Cromedy of Asheboro; sister, Viola Sander of Lexington; brother, Arthur Brooks of Salisbury, Md.; two grandchildren; several great-grandchildren.

RAMSEUR - Jewel Stout Brown, 89, of 1350 N.C. 22 South, died Saturday, May 24, 2008, at Universal Healthcare in Ramseur. The funeral was held May 27, 2008, at Deep River Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Bob Boyd officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. She was a Randolph County native and retired from the John Plant Co. LIBERTY - Ola Mae Wall Bowman, 90, of Liberty died Friday, May 23, 2008, at Clapp's Nursing Home. The funeral was May 26, 2008, at Liberty First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Johnson officiating. Burial was at at Fairview Cemetery. She was the widow of Kirby Brent Bowman and was predeceased by sisters Polly McPherson and Lettie Coble and brother Ralph Wall. ASHEBORO - Victor Harold Burns, 89, of 230 E. Presnell St., died Sunday, May 18, 2008, at Randolph Health & Rehabilitation in Asheboro. The funeral was held May 25, 2008, at Randolph Memorial Park with the Rev. Rodney Otwell officiating. Burial was with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard. He was a native of Denver, Ind., the widower of Grace A. Burns, was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and formerly owned and operated Central Bakery in Asheboro. Surviving are his daughters, Mary Ann Payne of Asheboro and Patsy Routh Reed of Trinity; sisters, Mary Louise Day of Peru, Ind., and Louella Davis of Wasbash, Ind.; brothers, Richard Burns and Charles Edward Burns, both of Denver, Ind.; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. Howard Moffitt officiating. She was a native of Randolph County, employed with Technimark Inc. and was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. ASHEBORO - William Francis "Bill" Powell Jr., 70, of 1530 Sylvan Woods Drive, Asheboro, died Saturday, May 24, 2008. The funeral was held May 28, 2008, at Central United Methodist Church in Asheboro with Dr. Mark J. Key, the Rev. Ron Overcash and the Rev. Ed Thore officiating. He played minor league baseball in the Washington Senators organization, was president and owner of Carolina Lighting Systems, guest lecturer at N.C. State University, former vice president of Elsco Lighting, former regional sales manager of Duel-Lite, former national sales manager of Charlotte Emergency Lighting and co-owner of Coastal Paramedics. He also coached numerous Little League and Pony League baseball teams in Asheboro and was the current coach of the Asheboro Imaging Pony League baseball team. Surviving are his wife, Mary Lois Powell; sons, W. Jeffrey Powell of Wentzville, Mo., and Kenneth G. Powell of Thomasville; stepdaughters, Melanie P.
