RANDLEMAN - Mecia Short Abston, 94, of 4658 Island Ford Road, died Thursday, May 15, 2008, at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.
The funeral was held May 18, 2008, at Pugh Funeral Home in Randleman with the Rev. Jack Morris officiating. Burial was in Randolph Memorial Park in Asheboro.
She was a native of Mount Airy, widow of Earl Abston, a member of First Baptist Church in Randleman and was retired from Laughlin Hosiery Mill.
Surviving are her sister, Veda Short Howell of Asheboro; several nieces and nephews.

SEAGROVE - Benjamin Buster Brown, 77, of 6932 Union Grove Church Road, died Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at Randolph Hospital.
The funeral was held May 16, 2008, at New Center Christian Church, with the Rev. Jimmy Shirlen officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
He was a native of Chatham County, retired from AGI and was a member of New Center Christian Church.
Surviving are his sons, Benjy Brown of Seagrove and Bryan Brown of Asheboro; brothers, Coy Brown of Bonlee, Colon Brown of Bear Creek and Norman Brown of Bennett; sisters, Hilda Brewer and Myrtle Teague, both of Bennett; three grandchildren.

ASHEBORO - Virginia Alene Hicks Burgess, 85, of 220 Lexington Place, Asheboro, died Saturday, May 17, 2008, at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of James Nelson Burgess, attended Staley High School, graduated from Troutman Beauty College and Kree Institute in New York City, attended Asheboro Friends Meeting and had operated beauty shops in Staley, Vass and Ramseur.
Surviving are her son, Larry B. Marley of Asheboro; stepson, William J. (Bill) Burgess of Kingsport, Tenn.; sister, Janie H. Salmon of Pinehurst; two stepgrandchildren.

RANDLEMAN - Scottie Carrico Coble, 63, of 123 N. Coble St., Randleman, died Tuesday, May 13, 2008, at Beacon Place in Greensboro.

She was a native of Grayson County, Va., worked at Randleman Restaurant for 28 years and owned and operated it for six more years.

TRINITY - Frankie Cross, 74, of 150 Fuller Mill Road, Trinity, died Monday, May 12, 2008, at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.
The funeral was held May 15, 2008, at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Darrell Rabon and the Rev. Jody Harrison officiating. Burial was in Tabernacle United Methodist Church Cemetery with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
He was a native of Randolph County, served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and later served as a Merchant Seaman.
Surviving are his wife, Frances Cross of the home; son, Mitchell Cross of Ether; daughter, Cheryl Cross Watson of Asheboro; brothers, Vernie Cross of Rich Square, Douglas Cross and Bobby Cross, both of Asheboro, and Jimmy Cross of Greensboro; sisters, Elizabeth Castevens of Cleveland, Ohio, Barbara Brown of Little Rock, Ark., and Betty Lee of Asheboro; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

RANDLEMAN - Arthur Kenneth "Pappy" Daniels Sr., 98, of 103 Daniel St., Randleman, died Tuesday, May 13, 2008, at High Point Regional Hospital in High Point.
The funeral was held May 15, 2008, at Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church in Randleman, with the Rev. Marion Fulk Sr. officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
He was a native of Randleman, the widower of Bessie Williams Daniels, retired from Burlington Industries and was an active member of Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his daughter, Ann Daniels Burrow of Randleman; son, Arthur Kenneth (K) Daniels Jr. of the home; sister, Marie Daniels Coble; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Leon C. Gardner, a charter member of Calvary United Methodist Church, and was retired from Burlington/Klopman Mills.
Surviving are her son, James C. (Jim) Gardner of Climax; two grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.

ASHEBORO - Lynn Hodge Haneline, 73, died May 15, 2008, at Randolph Hospital.
A celebration of her life and interment was held May 17, 2008, at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory in Kernersville.
She was a native of London, England, and the widow of David Nathan Haneline.
Surviving are her daughters, Gloria Painter and Sherree Doss, both of Asheboro, and Gail Anderson of Canada; brother, Robin Race of Spain; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

RAMSEUR - Mary Deane (G'ma) Euliss Hicks, 92, of Ramseur died Thursday, May 15, 2008, at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.
A graveside service was held May 18, 2008, at the Sunset Knoll Cemetery in Ramseur with Dr. Charles R. Fleshman Jr. and the Rev. Justus McKeel officiating.
She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Ernest Hicks, formerly employed with Burlington Industries, a member of the First Baptist Church of Ramseur, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Weatherly Chapter #271 in Ramseur.
Surviving are her sons, Johnny E. Hicks and David L. Hicks, both of Ramseur; daughter, Virginia H. Haithcox of Greensboro; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren.

He was a Randolph County native, a retired sawmill worker, retired from Gregson Furniture and attended Corner Stone Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Maude Lee Hill; sons, Cecil Ray Hill of Randleman, Jimmy Gary Hill of Asheboro, David Jerome Hill of Farmer and Jack Martin Gray of Randleman; daughters, Novie Elizabeth Hill Bray of Randleman, Doris Helen Hill York of Liberty, Blanche Ora Hill Cavender of Franklinville, Emily Jane Hill Owens of Farmer and Dorothy Mae Hill Brim of Asheboro; sisters Ruth Dixon of Bynum and Lois Hackney of Moncure; 29 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
