Belva P. Boggs

RAMSEUR - Belva Ella Porter Boggs, 87, of 4804 Moffitt Mill Road, died Saturday, May 10, 2008, at her home.

A memorial service was held May 13, 2008, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, with Evangelist Steve York officiating.She was a native of Wilkes County, retired from L Ranch Shop and a member of Flint Hill Baptist Church.

Surviving are her daughter, Lois Heaton of Asheboro; son, Darrell Nolen of Flint Hill; sister, Annie Staley of Seagrove; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.

George R. Bowman

FRANKLINVILLE - George Ray Bowman, 72, of 2323 Sandy Lake Drive, Franklinville, died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.

The funeral was held May 8, 2008, at Loflin Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. James Moore and the Rev. Fred Rife officiating. Burial was in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Surry County, retired from Randolph County Schools and a member of Plain View Baptist Church in McLeansville.

Surviving are his wife, Gertrude Burrow Bowman of the home; sons, Russell Bowman of Graham and Mark Bowman of the home; daughter, Lisa Bowman Anderson of Franklinville; brothers, Gray Bowman of McLeansville, Tom Bowman of Julian, Bill Bowman of Pleasant Garden; sister, Sally Bowman Isley of Gibsonville; four grandchildren.

Jack Brown

ASHEBORO - Samuel Jackson Brown, 77, of Kennedy Country Drive, died Thursday May 8, 2008, at the VA Hospital in Durham.

A private memorial service was held.

He was a native of Randolph County, the widower of Betty Sink Brown, retired from Rampon Products and was U.S. Army Korean War veteran.

Surviving are his brother, Cleo Brown of Asheboro; several nieces and nephews.

RAMSEUR - John Wesley Coble, 55, of 1593 Patterson Grove Church Road, Ramseur, died Sunday, May 4, 2008, at Randolph Hospital.

The funeral was held May 7, 2008, at Loflin Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Russell Chrisco and the Rev. Ben Hurley officiating. Burial was in Patterson Grove Christian Church Cemetery.

Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Coble of the home; son, Alan Coble of Ramseur; daughter, Lisa Ashby of Lexington; mother, Kathleen R. Coble of Ramseur; brothers, Colon Coble of Ramseur, Wayne Coble of Franklinville, Irvin Coble of Thomasville and Richard Coble of Seagrove; sisters, Mae Rumbley and Dot Canoy, both of Ramseur, and Ann Chriscoe of Seagrove; four grandchildren.

Christopher S. Collins

ASHEBORO - Christopher Shawn Collins, 36, of Asheboro, died Thursday, May 8, 2008, at Searcy, Ark.

The funeral was held at May 12, 2008, at Eddie's Family Funeral Home with Brother J.J. Stowe officiating. Burial was in Cross Roads Cemetery. He was a native of Mountain Home, Ark., and was a self-employed communications installer.

Surviving are his mother, Connie Baker of Calico Rock, Ark.; wife, Kay Salter Collins; sons, Michael, Shawn and Jacob Collins, all of Asheboro; brother, Ted Dockins of Calico Rock, Ark., and Ron Barker of Memphis, Tenn.

Ottie B. Cox

WILMINGTON - Ottie Katherine Bingham Cox, 94, died Sunday, May 4, 2008, in Wilmington.

The funeral was held May 8, 2008, at Asheboro Friends Meeting. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery.

She was the widow of Arley Monroe Cox, retired from Bossong Hosiery Mill and Moffet Knitting Mills and was a member of Asheboro Friends Meeting.

Surviving are her daughter, Sara Cox Cates of Wilmington.

William C. Dunlap

SOPHIA - William Carl Dunlap, 71, of Sophia, died Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at High Point Regional Hospital.

The funeral was held May 9, 2008, at Cumby Family Funeral Service Chapel in Archdale with the Rev. Randall Macon officiating.

Burial was in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Chatham County, the widower of Patricia Eberly, attended Glenola Baptist Church, was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and was retired from Drexel Heritage.

Surviving are his daughters, Debbie Whitley and Carmen Goodwin, both of Sophia; sister, Juanita Joyner of High Point; brothers, C.B. Dunlap of Florida and Joe Dunlap of Speedwell, Va.; one grandchild.

Ronnie R. Fields

ASHEBORO - Ronnie Ross Fields, 41, of 702 Foxworth Road, died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at Moses Cone Hospital.

The funeral was held May 9, 2008, at J.C. Green & Sons Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Greene officiating.

Burial was in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.

He was a native of Forsyth County and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are his wife, April Asbill Fields of the home; mother, Janice Marie Hunt of Trinity; father, Roger Lee Fields of Lexington; sons, Brandon Lee Fields and David Ross Fields, both of Thomasville; sisters, Melissa Marie Kleineick of Lexington and Angela Michelle Davis of Trinity; brothers, Johnny Lee Fields and Randy Wayne Fields, both of Thomasville.

James Gunter

ARCHDALE - James M. "Jim" Gunter, 72, of 217 Tarheel Drive, died Friday, May 9, 2008, at High Point Regional Hospital.

A graveside service with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard was held May 13, 2008, at Holly Springs Friends Meeting Cemetery with the Rev. Todd Brown officiating.

He was a native of Randolph County, retired from the U.S. Army and Hess Oil Company, was a charter member of Randolph Hills United Methodist Church and coached Little League baseball.

Surviving are his wife, Eleanor Hinshaw of the home; daughter, Julia Hepler of Thomasville; sons, Jimmy Gunter of Asheboro and Jeff Gunter of Randleman; sister, Helen Core of Greensboro; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

ASHEBORO - Roger Lee Haithcock, 60, of 1102 Sanford St., died Friday, May 9, 2008, at High Point Regional Hospital.

The funeral was held May 12, 2008, at Cedar Falls Baptist Church, with the Rev. Russell Chrisco officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Asheboro, retired from Jockey International and attended Cedar Falls Baptist Church.

Surviving are his sisters, Peggy Haithcock Harrelson of Asheboro and Patsy Porter of Randleman.

Ruth J. Linthicum

RANDLEMAN - Ruth Jordan Linthicum, 88, of 315 Shaw St., Randleman, died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at High Point Regional Hospital.

The funeral was held May 9, 2008, at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Martha Welch and the Rev. Kyle Thompson officiating.

Burial was in Caraway Baptist Church Cemetery.

She was a native Elm City, the widow of Howard Monroe Linthicum, served as librarian for the Randleman Public Library, was formerly employed at Salem Neckwear and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Randleman.

Surviving are her daughters, Cheryl L. Triplett of Burlington, Marion Clark of Kernersville, Voncyle Linthicum of Tallahassee, Fla., and Sara Helen Gerlach of Rego Park, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

ASHEBORO - Jerry Brown Lucas, 62, of 1361 Howard Auman Road, died Saturday, May 10, 2008, at his home.

The funeral was held May 13, 2008, at Pleasant Hill Primitive Baptist Church, with Elder Richard Kirby and Elder David Brooks officiating.

Burial was in the church cemetery with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.

He was a native of Randolph County and was U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

Surviving are his wife, Sandra Latham Lucas of the home; daughters, Janet Lucas Brown, Julie Foust, both of Asheboro; son, Jerry "J.B." Lucas Jr. of Asheboro; sisters, Elgie Tucker of Asheboro, Joan Lucas of Holden Beach, Joy Tucker of Denton, Marcella Woodell of Franklinville; brothers, Jacob Lucas of Asheboro and Danny Lucas of Franklinville; 13 grandchildren.

RANDLEMAN - Rosa B. McCaskill of 8915 U.S. 220 Business North, died Friday, May 9, 2008, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro.

The funeral was held May 13, 2008, at the Randleman Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses.

Surviving are her son, Gene McCaskill of the home; daughters, Lisa McCaskill of the home, and Gwendolyn Miller, Martha Nobles, Diana Jones, Christine McCaskill, all of Randleman; sister, Bertha Smith of Pittsburgh, Pa.; brother, Samuel Price of Detroit, Mich.; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.

Pauline Reavis

ASHEBORO - Margaret Pauline Shelton Reavis, 92, of 1964 Talmer Wright Road, Asheboro, died Thursday, May 8, 2008, at her home.

The funeral was held May 10, 2008, at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel in Asheboro, with the Rev. Aaron Robbins officiating.

Burial was in Whitehall Evangelical Methodist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Alamance County and the widow of Rev. James Scott Reavis.

Surviving are her daughters, Margaret R. Wright of Asheboro and Jackie Ricucci of Mt. Dora, Fla.; sister, Alice Loy of Elon; seven grandchildren; five grandchildren.

RANDLEMAN - Clyde William "Bill" Upton Jr., 66, of 5055 Old Greensboro Road, Randleman, died Monday, May 5, 2008, at his home.

A graveside service was held at Oaklawn Cemetery with the Rev. Phillip Talton officiating.

He was a native of Randolph County, the widower of Linda Rector Upton, retired from the U.S. Navy and was employed with the Department of Veterans Affairs in Winston-Salem.

Surviving are his daughters, Bonnie Brien of Burlington, Mass., and Julia Bowman of Randleman; sister, Peggy Bullins of Asheboro; three grandchildren.

Virginia H. Weddle

RANDLEMAN - Virginia Dare Hanes Weddle, 79, of Asheboro, died Friday, May 9, 2008, at SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation of Asheboro.

The funeral was held May 11, 2008, at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel in Randleman with Dr. Russell Brownworth officiating.

Burial was at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Wilmington.

She was a native of Shelby, the widow of Denny Weddle, a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are her sisters, Becky Thomas of Troy, Peggy Wilson of Burlington, Betty Yow of Seagrove and Rachel Caudle of Franklinville.
