RAMSEUR – Emma Vickory Caviness, 87, formerly of Ramseur, died Saturday, March 15, 2008, at Mountain Vista Health Park in Denton.

The funeral was held March 18, 2008, at Shady Grove Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Larry Martin and Rev. Willie D. Pickard officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County and was retired from Klopman Mills.

Surviving are her sons, Gary Caviness of Asheboro and Paul Caviness of Liberty; daughters, Sylvia Ann Langley of Staley and Faye D. Smith of Liberty; eight grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren.

Magleane C. Chriscoe

SEAGROVE – Virginia Magleane Cagle Chriscoe, 89, of 346 Ridge Road, Seagrove, died Thursday, March 13, 2008, at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.

The funeral was held March 16, 2008, at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Garry Reeder and the Rev. Ron Terry officiating. Burial was in Union Grove Baptist Church.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Ben Chriscoe, a member of Center Christian Church and was retired from Burlington Mills.

Surviving are her daughter, Ruby Mullin of Seagrove; son, Roy Chriscoe of Seagrove; brother, Vernon Cagle of Asheboro; sister, Maxie Smith of Randleman; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild.



R.V. Coltrane

ARCHDALE – Robert Vester (R.V.) Coltrane of Evergreens Senior Health Care, died Sunday, March 9, 2008.

The funeral was held March 11, 2008, at Cumby Family Funeral Service Chapel in Archdale, with the Rev. Don Whisnant officiating. Burial was in Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County.

Surviving are his wife, Phyllis M. Coltrane; son, Steve Coltrane of Archdale; daughters, Carole Whisnant of Atlanta, Ga., and Dianne Francin of North Topsail Beach; brother, Lewis Coltrane; sisters, Helen Shaw and Betty Weaver; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren.

Janet A. Croft

ASHEBORO – Janet Antonsen Croft died March 14, 2008, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice and Palliative Care in Winston-Salem.

A graveside service was held March 17, 2008, at Westminster Gardens in Greensboro. A memorial service was held March 17,, 2008, at River Landing at Sandy Ridge Presbyterian Home.

She was a native of Chicago, Ill, the widow of Bob E. Croft, a member of First Presbyterian Church, Asheboro, former secretary for Randolph Technical Community College and former secretary and bookkeeper of the Randolph County Sheltered Workshop and volunteered for the Red Cross and State Literacy program.

Surviving are her daughter, Carol Ann Croft of Phafftown; son, Douglas Edward Croft; four grandchildren.

ASHEBORO – Mildred Denson, 94, of 232 Spring Garden St., Asheboro, died Sunday, March 9, 2008, at Carillon Assisted Living of Asheboro.

The funeral was held March 4, 2008, at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. John S. Rogers officiating. Burial was in Brush Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Siler City.

She was a native of Chatham County, the widow of Walter T. Denson, a member of First Baptist Church in Asheboro and retired from Burlington Industries.

Richard M. Draughn

ASHEBORO – Richard Monroe Draughn, 60, 2330 Old Farmer Road, died Thursday, March 13, 2008, in Asheboro.

The funeral was held March 16, 2008, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Gerald Hodges and Dr. Richard Crider officiating. Burial was in Randolph Memorial Park in Asheboro.

He was a native of Randolph County, the widower of Ann Ridge Draughn and the former owner of Superior Body Shop.

Surviving are his wife, Vicki Priest Draughn of Asheboro; daughter, Kelly Clayton of Roxboro; sons, Richard “JoJo” Draughn Jr. and Ryan See, both of Asheboro; sister, Lois Moody of Asheboro; four grandchildren.

Donald W. Durham

ASHEBORO – Donald Walter Durham, 83, formerly of Windermere West in Asheboro, died Thursday, March 13, 2008, at Clapps Convalescent Nursing Home in Asheboro.

The funeral was held March 16, 2008, at First United Methodist Church in Asheboro, where he was a member, with the Rev. Michael Holder and the Rev. George Roberson officiating. Burial was in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Greensboro.

He was a native of Greensboro, the widower of Evelyn Glass Durham, a graduate of Greensboro (now Grimsley) High School, a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II, co-owner of Presnell-Durham Printing Co., former co-owner of Lambert Printing, which later became Lee Printing, retired past president of Durham Printing Company, and was active in many church and civic organizations.

Surviving are his sons, Carey Durham of Troy and Richard Durham of Asheboro; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

Neal H. Farlow

SOPHIA – Neal Hurley Farlow, 95, formerly of 3824 Hardins Farm Road, died Thursday, March 13, 2008, at the GrayBrier.

The funeral was held March 16, 2008, at Marlboro Friends Meeting with the Rev. John Sides officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Montgomery County, the widow of Raeford Farlow, a member of Marlboro Friends Meeting and was retired from Adams-Millis Hosiery Mill.

Surviving are her brothers, Ralph Hurley of Randleman, Leonard Hurley of Asheboro, Ray Hurley of Greensboro and Bill Hurley of Sophia.

Kenneth C. Freeman

ASHEBORO – Kenneth Clifford “Cooter” Freeman, 64, of Asheboro, died Saturday, March 8, 2008, at his home.

The funeral was held March 11, 2008, at Mountain View Independent Methodist Church with the Rev. David Hunt officiating. Burial was in Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery.

He was a native of High Point, a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and was self-employed as a boat mechanic.

Surviving are his wife, Joyce Williams Freeman of the home; sisters, Barbara Hodgin of Climax and Claudette Wilson of Greensboro; brother, Jimmy M. Freeman of Thomasville.

RANDLEMAN – Randy Bennett Freeman, 54, of 4523 Bowman Ave., Randleman, died Friday, March 14, 2008, at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.

The funeral was held March 17, 2008, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Larry Stines officiating. Burial was in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Randolph County, had attended Randleman High School, attended Fellowship Baptist Church and was a truck driver.

Surviving are his wife, Debbie Freeman of the home; father, Barney Freeman of Asheboro; son, Randal Lee Freeman of Randleman; daughter, Brook Freeman Grant of Randleman; two grandchildren.

Dick Gaddis

ASHEBORO – T.D. “Dick” Gaddis, 89, of 1306 Old Cox Road, Asheboro, died Thursday, March 13, 2008, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.

The funeral was held March 15, 2008, at First Baptist Church in Asheboro, with Dr. John S. Rogers, the Rev. Mark Hall and Tom Snead officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, the widower of Doris Betts Gaddis, retired as a superintendent of Bossong Hosiery and a member of First Baptist Church.

ASHEBORO – Brian David Howell, 51, of 105 N. Snider St., Denton, died Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at his home.

He was a native of Covina, Calif., and was employed with MDM in Archdale.

Surviving are his wife, Carol Jean Nance Harlow of the home; daughter, Diane H. Byford; sons, Brent Nance, Zachary Moore and Chris Moore; father, Claude Ray Howell; brother, Gary Howell; seven grandchildren.



Carolyn J. Frye

ASHEBORO – Carolyn Ann Jackson Frye, 47, of 540 Miller Road, Asheboro, died Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at her home.

A graveside service was held March 11, 2008, at Liberty Road Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Lee Green officiating.

She was a native of Robeson County and had worked at Fineline Hosiery Mill in Randleman.

Surviving are her husband, Richard Frye of the home; daughter, Crystal Frye Parsons of Asheboro; brother, Douglas Jackson of St. Pauls.



Harlow L. King Sr.

ASHEBORO – Harlow Lee King Sr., 75, of Asheboro, died Thursday, March 6, 2008.

The funeral was held March 15, 2008, at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. John S. Rogers officiating. Burial was in New Hope Memorial Gardens in Asheboro with military honors.

He was a native of Asheboro, a member of Russell’s Grove Baptist Church, retired from the U.S. Coast Guard and retired from Lucent Technology.

Surviving are his wife, Nancy King; daughter, Cynthia Putnam of Richmond, Va.; sons, Harlow Lee King Jr. of Asheboro and David Monroe King of Kennesaw, Va.; brothers, Koren King of Asheboro and Duane King of Greensboro; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Iris B. King

RANDLEMAN – Iris Bentley King, 62, of 101 Smith St., Randleman, died Monday, March 10, 2008, at her residence.

The funeral was held March 14, 2008, at Freedom Life Church of God, with the Rev. Ben Chavis officiating.

She was a native of Pulaski County, Va., a homemaker and a member of Freedom Life Church of God.

Surviving are her son, James King of Asheboro; daughter, Kim Moore of Ramseur; brothers, Glenn Bentley of Randleman, William H. Bentley of Pulaski, Va., and Jack Bentley of Cleveland, Tenn.; sister, Margaret Lester of Falls Church, Va.; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Treva S. Lane

ASHEBORO – Treva Mae Skeen Lane, 98, of 500 Mountain Top Drive, Asheboro, and formerly of Redding Road in Asheboro, died Sunday, March 9, 2008, at Clapp’s Convalescent Nursing Home in Asheboro.

A graveside service was held March 12, 2008, at Randolph Memorial Park, with Dr. John Rogers and the Rev. Mark Hall officiating.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Cecil M. Lane, a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church.

Surviving are her daughter, Peggy Masteller of Raleigh; sons, Gilbert Lane and Thomas Lane, both of Asheboro, and Joseph Lane of Daniel Island, S.C.; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.



Lillie S. McDowell

ASHEBORO – Lillie Shaw McDowell, 95, formerly of South McCrary Street in Asheboro, died Saturday, March 15, 2008, at Brian Center in Lexington.

The funeral was held March 18, 2008, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. David Rollins and the Rev. Edwin Chriscoe officiating. Burial was in Hoover’s Grove Wesleyan Church Cemetery in Denton.

She was a native of Randolph County, formerly employed with Brian Center of Asheboro and at Sew Special.

Surviving are her daughters, Betty M. Sheffield, Callie M. Chriscoe and Cleo M. Frick; brothers, Preston Shaw and James Shaw; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

RANDLEMAN – Lorine Patterson Nelson, 82, died Saturday, March 15, 2008, at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.

A graveside service was held March 18, 2008, at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.

She was a native of Guilford County, the widow of Carl S. Nelson Jr., retired from Guilford Mills and was a member of Osceola Baptist Church.

Surviving are her daughter, Glenda Nelson and son, Kevin Nelson, both of Randleman; brothers, Bill and Jim Patterson, both of Greensboro, Harry Patterson of McLeansville and Leo Patterson of Spring Lake; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

ASHEBORO – Ruth McPherson Rich, 94, died Monday, March 10, 2008, at Moses Cone Hospital.

The funeral was held March 13, 2008, at Hanes Lineberry Vanstory Chapel, with the Rev. Darrell Ost officiating. Burial was in Greenhill Cemetery.

She was a member of First Evangelical Methodist Church and was the widow of Everett A. Rich.

Surviving are her sons, Ray Pegram of Columbia, S.C., and Jack E. Rich of Greensboro; daughter, Edith R. Cole of Asheboro; sister, Leona Allred of Burlington; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

ASHEBORO – Wilma Faye Manus Smith, 86, of North Pointe Assisted Living, formerly of 683 Woodland Circle, Asheboro, died Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at Randolph Hospital.

A memorial service was held March 14, 2008, at Balfour Baptist Church in Asheboro, with the Rev. Tim Lowry officiating. Burial was in Sharon Memorial Park, Charlotte.

She was a native of Union County, the widow of Richard C. Smith and was a member of Balfour Baptist Church.

She was a native of Rockingham County and was retired from Bossong Hosiery Mill.

Ronald L. Teague

ASHEBORO – Ronald Lee Teague, 50, of 2777 Old Cedar Falls Road, Asheboro, died Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at Randolph Hospital.

The funeral was held March 14, 2008, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Jeff Sypole officiating. Burial was in Brower’s Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, had worked for The Randolph Vocational Workshop for 34 years.

Surviving are his mother, Vickie Teague of the home; sister, Cindy Cooke of Asheboro; brothers, Jonathan Cody Teague of the home, Tim Teague of Asheboro, Olen Teague Jr., of Mayodan, Kenneth Wright of Asheboro and Michael Goad of Mayodan.

Brad Weinbrock

ASHEBORO – Bradford Frederick “Brad” Weinbrock, 90, of Asheboro, died Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at Clapp’s Convalescent Nursing Home in Asheboro.

No services were held. He was a native of Patterson, N.J., the widower of Muriel L. Weinbrock and a retired personnel director with the Curtiss-Wright Corp. Surviving are his three daughters, seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild and one sister.



Peggy Westmoreland

RANDLEMAN – Peggy York Westmoreland, 75, of Randleman, died Saturday, March 15, 2008, at Carolina House of Asheboro.

The funeral was held March 17, 2008, at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel in Randleman, with the Rev. Ernest Beck and Rev. Alvin Powell officiating. Burial was in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was the widow of Edward Westmoreland, retired from Jockey International and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are her son, Eddie Westmoreland of Randleman; sisters, Nancy Beck of Randleman and Mary Ann Johnson of Franklinville; one grandchild.



Frances L. Williams

ASHEBORO – Frances L. Williams, 80, of 243 Boundurant Road, died Thursday, March 13, 2008, at Clapps Convalescent Nursing Home.

The funeral was held March 16, 2008, at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Avery Smith and the Rev. Lee Green officiating. Burial was in High Pine Wesleyan Church Cemetery in Asheboro.

She was a native of Rowan County, was retired from Rampon Hosiery and was a member of Shadow of the Cross Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Herbert Williams; sister, Virginia Hathaway of Salisbury.



Louis York

ASHEBORO – Henry Louis York, 86, of 1016 Draper St., Asheboro, died Monday, March 13, 2008, at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.

The funeral was held March 13, 2008, at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles McHargue, the Rev. Garry Arnett and the Rev. Jeff Collins officiating. Burial was in Randolph Memorial Park with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.

He was a native of Ramseur, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, retired from Klopman Mills, a former member of Central Wesleyan Church and a present member of First Christian Church in Ramseur.

Surviving are his wife, Jessie Bate York; daughters, Rebecca Y. Ragan of Asheboro, Martha Y. Collins of Hamlet, Cindy Y. Sorg of Columbus, Ohio; son, Byron L. York of Cary; sister, Mary E. York of Asheboro; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
