ASHEBORO - Lydia Biles Auman, 87, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008, at her home.

The funeral was held March 2, 2008, at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Mike Nelson officiating. Burial was in Ether U.M.C. cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Dennis W. Auman, a retired sewer and attended Oakwood Park Baptist Church.

Surviving are her sons, Ronald R. Auman of Asheboro and Darrell D. Auman of Randleman; daughters, Faye Fisher and Helen Tarlton, both of Asheboro; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Maxine B. Barbee

SOPHIA - Maxine Bray Barbee, 63, of 3068 Beeson Farm Road, Sophia, died Saturday, March 1, 2008, at Randolph Hospital, Asheboro.

The funeral was held March 4, 2008, at Loflin Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Jim Honeycutt and the Rev. Charles Wright officiating. Burial was in Mt. Tabor Community Church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, retired from Commonwealth Hosiery Mill and a 1962 graduate of Franklinville High School.

Surviving are her husband, Larry David Barbee of the home; sons, Darren Barbee and David Barbee, both of Sophia; brothers, Larry Bray of Randleman, the Rev. Charles Wright of Spartanburg, S.C., Lynn Wright of Franklinville; two grandchildren.



Charlie J. Bare Sr.

LIBERTY - Charlie James Bare Jr., 76, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008, at Beacon Place Hospital, Greensboro.

The funeral was held March 2, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, with the Rev. Wayne Dunn and the Rev. Tim Friar officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, a graduate of Liberty High School, a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War, retired from Greensboro News & Record and a greeter at Wal-Mart in Siler City.

Surviving are his wife, Helen Hicks Bare; daughter, Jamie Bare Poe; sons, Marty Bare and Jay Bare; sisters, Nancy B. Holt, Pat B. Coble, Virginia B. Walters, all of Liberty, Verl Fleeman of High Point; brothers, Boyd Bare of Plesant Garden, Wallace Bare of Grays Chapel; four grandchildren.

She was a native of Robeson County, the widow of John Lee Burton, and was formerly employed with Guilford Mills.

Surviving are her daughter, Sandra Burton Traylor of Randleman; brother, Jimmy Deese of Atlanta, Ga.; sisters, Janet Carter of Mocksville and Delores Cavinder of Atlanta, Ga.; three grandchildren.



Thelma L. Capps

RANDLEMAN - Thelma Layton Capps, 73, of 3826 Bethany Church Road, Franklinville, died Saturday, March 1, 2008, at Randolph Hospital, Asheboro.

The funeral was held March 5, 2008, at Bethany United Methodist Church, Franklinville, with the Rev. Russell J. Brownworth officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Jackson Springs, a homemaker and a member of Bethany Untied Methodist Church.

Surviving are husband, Julice "Buddy" Capps and one niece, Shirley Young Moore of Rockingham.

SEAGROVE - Robert L. Comer, 75, of 1615 Dover Church Road, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2008, at his home.

He was a retired sales representative of American Home Products, a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, a member of the Gideons International, Past Master of Biscoe Masonic Lodge # 437, Scottish Rite Mason, Oasis Shriner and served on the Board of Directors of Westmoore Volunteer Fire Department.

Surviving are his wife, Ernestine B. Comer; daughter, Debra Comer of Winston-Salem; brother, J.C. Comer of Eagle Springs; sisters, Louise Greene of Clemmons, Geneva King of Seagrove; four grandchildren.

GREENSBORO - Wister Odell Cox, 85, of 1817 Elfand Drive, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008, at Moses Cone Hospital.

The funeral was held Feb. 29, 2008, at Loflin Funeral Home Chapel with military honors by the Randolph County Guard and the Rev. Richard Wright officiating. Burial was in the Sunset Knoll Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, a 1940 graduate of Ramseur High School, retired from Western & Southern Life Insurance Co. and was a U.S. Marine Corps World War II veteran, a member of First Christian Church and has served on the Ramseur Town Board and as the town's 12th mayor.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret Paige Cox of the home; sons, Doug Cox and Steven Cox, both of Greensboro; daughter, Patricia Scarborough of Greensboro; brother, Daryl Cox of Ramseur; sister, Edna Earl Hall of Marion; three grandchildren.

ASHEBORO - Dorothy Leah Marsh Dusek, 85, of 4558 Old Greensboro Road, Randleman, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008, at Randolph Hospital, Asheboro.

The funeral was held March 2, 2008, at Lawndale Baptist Church Chapel, where she was a member, with Dr. Joe Giartelli and the Rev. Marion Boling officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery in Chicago, Ill.

She was a native of Chicago, Ill, the widow of Robert F. Dusek, and a member of East Side Bible Church.

Surviving are her son, Frank Dusek of Northbrook, Ill.; daughters, Linda Ravenell of Keaau, Hawaii, Nicky Parrish of Tinley Park, Ill., Jill Devens of Chicago, Ill., Roberta Case of Randleman; brother, Arthur Marsh of Beecher, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

CLIMAX - Joseph "Joey" Brian Evans, 25, died Feb. 24, 2008, at his residence.

He was a native of Granite Quarry, the widower of Mildred Hartman and Anna Jacobs Hartman, a U.S. Navy veteran and previously attended the Pentecostal Church in Pleasant Garden.

Surviving are his daughter, Brenda Boone of Franklinville; son, Jim Hartman of Edenton; sisters, Edna Elium of Rockwell, Mary Miller of Rockwell; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.

SOPHIA - Cameron Michael Grubbs-Hollingsworth, 18, of 4666 Beeson Farm Road, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2008, as the result of an automobile accident.

He was a native of Randolph County and a senior at Randleman High School. He enjoyed horseback riding, deer hunting and four wheeling.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Elmer Y. Hopkins,a graduate of New Hope Academy and was a charter member of Liberty Fellowship Church and was a homemaker.

He was a native of Las Mercedes, El Salvador, a retired steel worker and a farmer.

He was a native of Randolph County, retired from Fred Long Electric and later owned and operated Bushy Fork Electric and was a member of Clement Baptist Church.

He was a ntive of Randolph County, the widower of Margaret E. Trotter and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Betty B. Wallace

ASHEBORO - Betty Bray Wallace, 72, of 490 Foxworth Road, Asheboro, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2008, at her residence.

The funeral was held Feb. 28, 2008, at Cedar Falls United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Terry Lindquist and the Rev. Jacqueline Tookey officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, retired from Acme-McCrary Corp., and a member of Cedar Falls United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her son, Jeff Wallace of Asheboro; sisters, Peggy Bray of Asheboro; one grandchild.

Alfred G. Wood

SEAGROVE - Alfred George Wood, 82, of 5817 Ridge Road, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2008, at his home.

A graveside service was held Feb. 29, 2008, at the Hector Union Cemetery, Burdett, N.Y.

He was a native of Sayre, Pa., a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II serving on the USS Guam, retired from Emerson Power Transmission, and attended Whynot Wesleyan Church, Seagrove.

Surviving are his wife, Lois Shirley VanEtten Wood; daughters, Sandra Woodard, Merry Burnham and Sally Saunders, all of Seagrove, Jacqueline Lovell of Montour Falls, N.Y.; sons, Lewis Lent of Bridgewater, Mass., George Wood of Newfield, N.Y., Mark Wood of Burdett, N.Y.; 24 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.
