Time to register for The Human Race

ASHEBORO — The 13th running of The Human Race is Saturday, March 22, and those planning to participate are urged to register their teams.

The Human Race is a fund-raising event in which you can raise money for the charity of your choice. A minimum of 75 percent of the money you raise goes to your organization.

A 5K walk/run along the streets of Asheboro, The Human Race starts and finishes at Bicentennial Park. On-site registration is from 9 to 9:45 a.m. and opening ceremonies are from 9:45 to 10 a.m., followed by the 5K (3.1 miles).

Once again the featured celebrities are Fox 8's Emily Byrd and Larry Reid of WKXR. They'll get the participants off to a rousing start from the Bicentennial stage.

The Mutt Strut, sponsored by the Randolph County Animal Shelter, is an opportunity for dogs to join their owners on the walk. All animals must be on leashes at all times and owners are expected to clean up after their pets. A donation of $25 is required to get a number and race bib.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three runners in male and female divisions as well as Mutt Strut winners. Everyone who finishes the 5K and turns in at least $20 in contributions will receive a Human Race T-shirt.

Runner registration fee is $20 and times will be recorded by On the Mark Sports.

Incentives for teams include cash awards for the most money raised. First place is $500, second place is $250 and third place is $100. Awards are the same amounts for individuals.

The Human Race is planned and organized by The Volunteer Center of Randolph County, a United Way agency and CommunityOne Bank is the signature sponsor. For information or registration forms, call 336-626-6643 or drop by the office at 363 S. Cox St.
