Justin Sink, Lindsey Gaines win 5K

Justin Sink of Thomasville and Lindsey Gaines of Ramseur were the winners of the 13th annual 5K Health Run/Fitness Walk held April 26 in Asheboro.
Sink's time of 17:37 led the men's field. He was more than a minute ahead of second-place Douglas Holbrook, who finished in 18:51. Jerry Loflin was third with a time of 18:55.
Gaines won the women's division with a time of 22:01, followed by Amy Cernava (22:26) and Sylvia Ortiz (22:48).
There were 160 participants in the 5K and 30 in the Smile Mile, a race for children. Tara Newlin (8:11) edged Keaton Shoaf (8:12) and Olivia Lavack (8:13) in the girls' division of the Smile Mile. Connor Shoaf was the winning boy with a time of 7:56. Marvin Newlin came in second at 8:33 and Evan Lavack was third in 8:56.
A portion of the proceeds from the event went to Christians United Outreach Center. The race is held by the Randolph Road Runners Club and sponsored by the Randolph County Dental Society, Asheboro Parks and Recreation, N.C. Zoological Park, Asheboro High School Honor Society, AVS Catering and Nautilus.
