Air Force Staff Sgt. Thomas V. Parker has been named the 2009 Air Traffic Controller of the Year at Osan Air Base in South Korea.

Parker, an air traffic control watch supervisor with nine years of military service, is assigned to the 51st Fighter Wing. He is the son of Thomas and Severina Parker of Trinity and a 1998 graduate of Trinity High School.



Five local residents have graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

The five completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Air Force Airman Kendrick B. Alltop is the son of Janice Scott of Franklinville and a 2009 graduate of Eastern Randolph High School in Ramseur.

Air Force Airman Jae M. Solina earned distinction as an honor graduate. He is the son of Maria Alma Mulles of Randleman and a 2007 graduate of Randleman High School.

Air Force Airman Jordan K. Mundy is the son of Tim and Terri Mundy of Liberty and a 2008 graduate of Eastern Randolph High School in Ramseur.

Air Force Airman 1st Class Caleb N. McMasters is a 2009 graduate of Eastern Randolph High School in Ramseur. He is the son of Mitchell and Sherry McMasters of Ramseur and Freda and Joseph Malone of Asheboro.

Air Force Airman Ryan W. Lester is a 2006 graduate of Eastern Randolph High School in Ramseur. He is the son of Shirley Lester and George Lester, both of Ramseur.
