RAMSEUR – Lloyd Braxton “Bunk” Allen, 85, of 9237 U.S. 64 East, Ramseur, died Monday, June 9, 2008, at Universal Health Care in Ramseur.
A graveside service was held June 11, 2008, at Pleasant Hill Christian Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Clifford Williams officiating.
He was a native of Randolph County, the widower of Juanita Whitehead Allen, an employee of Craven & Kivett Clothing Store, a member of Staley Baptist Church and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his sons, Gary Allen of Siler City and Larry Allen of Asheboro; sisters, Velna Craven of Ramseur and Grace McPherson of Nashville, Tenn.; four grandchildren.

Betty G. Beair
STALEY – Betty Gray Beair, 73, of Staley died Thursday, June 12, 2008.
A graveside service was held June 14, 2008, at Sandy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, with Pastor Travis Brock officiating.
She was a member of Sandy Creek Baptist Church, the widow of William “Bill” Martin and Everet J. Beair.
Surviving are her daughter, Pamela Martin Langley of Staley; son, Jimmy Martin of Franklinville; sisters, Judy Laughlin of Franklinville, Nancy Reeder of Seagrove and Mary Ellen Swaney of Asheboro; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Theron “Skeet” Beasley
STALEY – Theron “Skeet” Beasley of Staley died Sunday, June 8, 2008, at Randolph Hospital.
The funeral was held June 11, 2008, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Staley, with the Rev. Tim Friar and the Rev. Wayne Dunn officiating.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley Wilson Beasley; sons, Anthony Beasley of Staley and Wayne Beasley of Ramseur; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Ava W. Chandler
TRINITY – Ava Hill Welborn Chandler, 82, of Trinity, died Wednesday, June 11, 2008, at High Point Regional Hospital.
The funeral was held June 14, 2008, at Mt. Gilead United Methodist Church in Sophia, with the Rev. Jim Bowen and the Rev. Charles Walker officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Joe Welborn and Alvin Chandler, a lifetime member of Mt. Gilead United Methodist Church and was retired from the former Gregson Nursing Home in Archdale.
Surviving are her daughters, Nancy Walker of Trinity and Debbie Price of High Point; stepchildren; Mal Welborn of Randleman, Betty Jean Gerringer of Sophia and Richard Welborn of Trinity; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; 20 stepgrandchildren; and several stepgreat-grandchildren.

STAR – Larry Gene Chriscoe, 52, of 783 Black Ankle Road, died Wednesday, June 11, 2008, at his home.
The funeral was held June 14, 2008, at Big Oak Church of God, with the Rev. Earl Ward and the Rev. Billy Ray Chriscoe officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
He was a native of Randolph County and an industrial electrician.
Surviving are his sons, Keith Chriscoe and Larry Wayne Chriscoe, both of Star, and Brandon Chriscoe of Asheboro; daughter, Heather East of Asheboro; parents, Thurman and Virginia Odom Chriscoe of Seagrove; sister, Angela Mabe of Star; brother, Gary Chriscoe of Franklinville; one grandchild.
Clarence Thomas “Tommy” Freeman
GREENSBORO – Clarence Thomas “Tommy” Freeman, 78, of 1800 W. Vandalia Road, died Friday, June 13, 2008, at his home.
A graveside service was held June 17, 2008, at Guilford Memorial Park in Greensboro with the Rev. Dallas George officiating.
He was a native of Chatham County, a 1950 graduate of Grays Chapel High School, a U.S. Army veteran, a former barber, a member of New Testament Baptist Church, and was the coach of the Deep River All-Stars in 1973.
Surviving are his wife, Vallie Cox Freeman of Greensboro; son, Rick Freeman of Cedar Falls; sisters, Bertha Lineberry, Gertha Ellington and Dorothy “Dot” Perry, all of Siler City; brother, Billy Freeman of Staley; several nieces and nephews.

ASHEBORO – Clinton “Leroy” Gladden Jr., 78, of 2181 Woods Stream Lane, died Sunday, June 8, 2008.
The funeral was held June 11, 2008, at First Pentecostal Church in Asheboro, with the Rev. Sharon Belk officiating. Burial was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Asheboro.
He was a native of Asheboro, a retired brickmason and carpenter.
Surviving are his wife, Lucille Isley of Ramseur; daughters, Alice Nicholson of Greensboro, Shelia G. Tunstall of Seagrove, Sheena G. Cheek and Delayno Delvecchio, both of Ramseur, Polly G. ASHEBORO – Tracy James Maness, 85, of 448 Eldorado Road, died Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at his home.
The funeral was held June 14, 2008, at Fayetteville Street Baptist Church in Asheboro, with the Rev. Adrian Pugh and the Rev. Bruce Dickerson officiating. Burial was in Randolph Memorial Park with military honors.
He was a native of Randolph County, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, retired from Klopman Mills and was a member of Fayetteville Street Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret Luck Maness; daughter, Mary Cribb of Asheboro, sons, Larry L.J. Maness of Asheboro and Barry Maness of Asheboro; sister, Madelyn Davis of Asheboro; brother, Howard Maness of Asheboro; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Minister Steven McClain
RAMSEUR – Minister Steven McClain of Huntingwood Road died Sunday, June 8, 2008, at Randolph Hospital.
The funeral was held June 14, 2008, at First Pentecostal Church in Asheboro, with Bishop Reginald Peyton officiating. Burial was in Oakland-McCrary Cemetery in Ramseur.
He was formerly employed as the assistant pastor of Mt. Nebo Holiness Church in Ramseur.
Surviving are his wife, Nora Watson McClain of the home; daughters, Andrea McClain, Jessica McClain and Brittany McClain, all of the home, and Crystal McClain Headen of Asheboro; brothers, Bobby McClain of Jacksonville and L.J. Garner of Staley; two grandchildren.
Bobby L. McPherson
LIBERTY – Bobby Lee McPherson, 66, of Liberty, died Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at his home.
The funeral was held June 14, 2008, at First Baptist Church of Liberty, with the Rev. Scott Faw officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery.
He was the owner and operator of Bob and Sons – B & B Parts and Towing and supported the Highway Patrol for over 50 years.
Surviving are his wife, Betty McPherson; son, Bruce McPherson, both of the home; daughters, Janet Miller of Asheboro and Ruby Dunn of Star; sons, Bill McPherson of Liberty, Randy McPherson of Staley, Howard McPherson, Bobby McPherson Jr. and Joe Bologna, all of Liberty; brothers, Rick McPherson of Palm Coast, Fla., and Kenny McPherson of Greensboro; 17 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Gladys Milam
ASHEBORO – Gladys J. Settle Milam, 72, of 1432 Arrowwood Road, Asheboro, died Saturday, June 14, 2008, at her home.
A memorial service was held in Maryland.
She was a native of Washington, D.C., retired from the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, currently employed with the Randolph County Partnership for Children, and a recent graduate of Randolph Community College.
Surviving are her daughter, Cynthia Furland of Nashville, Tenn.; son, Christopher Greene of Marshall, N.C.; sister, Mary Madden of Brandywine, Md.; brothers, Richard Settle of Waldorf, Md., Moffett Settle of Littleton, Colo., and Gilbert Settle of Ft. Worth, Texas; one grandchild.
Kirk T. Miller
ASHEBORO – Kirk Thomas Miller, 49, of Asheboro, died Thursday, June 5, 2008, in Virginia.
A memorial service was held June 12, 2008, at Randolph Memorial Park, with the Rev. Carl Dunker officiating.
He was a native of Asheboro, a 1977 graduate of Asheboro High School where he played baseball and was a member of the 1975 WNCH-SAA championship team and worked for the City of Asheboro.
Surviving are his parents, Frank and Gwen Welborn Miller of Asheboro; brothers, Robert Franklin Miller of Denton and Eric Welborn Miller of Richlands, Va.
Annie V. Nance
ASHEBORO – Annie Velna Nance, 84, formerly of Asheboro, died Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at Northeast Medical Center of Concord.
A graveside service was held June 11, 2008, at Farmer Cemetery with the Rev. Michael Holder officiating.
She was a native of Asheboro, attended Asheboro High School and Peace College, and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Asheboro.
Surviving are her brother, James R. Nance of Albemarle; several nieces and nephews.

Clemeth Patterson
LIBERTY – Clemeth Patterson, died Monday, June 9, 2008, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro.
The funeral was held June 13, 2008, at Edwards Grove Baptist Church in Liberty, with the Rev. Arnold Barton officiating. Burial was in Rock Creek Church Cemetery.
Surviving are sons, Malcolm Patterson and Christopher Patterson, both of Raleigh; brother, Bazel Patterson of Liberty; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
Sarah J. Swafford
ASHEBORO – Sarah Joyce Swafford, 72, of 7724 Old N.C. 13, died Thursday, June12, 2008, at Randolph Hospital.
A memorial service was held June 15, 2008, at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel in Asheboro.
She was a native of Atlanta, Ga., and was retired from Klaussner Furniture Plant #9.
She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Lynn Hite of Asheboro; one grandchild.

LIBERTY – Guy Thomas died Saturday, June 7, 2008.
