TRINITY – J. Sam Arnold, 82, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2008.
The funeral was held Jan. 10, 2008, at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Karen Smith and the Rev. Dr. Bonnie Preston Harris officiating. Burial with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard was in the church cemetery.
He was a native of Randolph County, the first president and co-founder of Valley Furniture Company Inc., a life-long member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church of the Tabernacle Charge and a World War II veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Frances Justice Arnold of the home; son, D. Gary Arnold of Trinity; daughter, Karen A. Coppley of Trinity; sisters, Ruby Garrison of Louisville, Ky., Inex Smith of Kannapolis and Ola Mae Pope of Trinity; brother, Worth Arnold of Trinity; two grandchildren.

ASHEBORO – Thelma Pugh "Sallie" Chandler, 93, of Mountain Top Residential Apartments, Asheboro, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008, at Randolph Hospital.
The funeral was held Jan. 12, 2008, at the Rehobeth United Methodist Church in Greensboro with the Rev. Susan Pillsbury-Taylor and the Rev. Dr. Charles Adams officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of E.M. (Mott) Chandler and a member of the Rehobeth United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her daughters, Patricia C. Millikan and Kay C. Ogburn; sister, Pauline Weatherly; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

ASHEBORO – Keith Edward Conner, 50, of 619 Fox Fire Road, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2008, at Randolph Hospital.
The funeral was held Jan. 11, 2008, at Rushwood Park Wesleyan Church in Asheboro, with Dr. Ron Hamilton and the Rev. Johnny Henderson officiating. Burial was in West Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
He was a native of Randolph County and a graduate of Eastern Randolph High School.
Surviving are his daughter, Christa Conner of Asheville; son, Casey Conner of Lexington; parents, Burnie and Betty Conner of the home; sisters, Karen Burress of Randleman and Trenda Marsh of Asheboro.

ASHEBORO – Violet Hatley Goins Conner, 84, of 230 E. Presnell St, Asheboro, died Wednesday Jan. 9, 2008, at Randolph Health & Rehabilitation.
A private service was held at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Howard McNeil officiating.
She was a native of Stanly County and of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are her granddaughters, Deborah Michael and Vicki Vickers, both of Randleman; one great-grandchild; one great-great-grandchild.

ASHEBORO – Robert Winston Dozier of Asheboro, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2008, from complications from Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
The funeral was held Jan. 9, 2008, at First United Methodist Church in Asheboro. Burial was in Richmond Memorial Park, Hamlet.
He was a native of Marion, S.C., a graduate of Clemson University, the founder and operator of Montgomery Foods Inc., Quik Chek Inc. and Quik Chek Fuels Inc.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia S. Dozier; sons, Bryan Dozier and Win Dozier, both of Troy, and King Dozier of Asheboro; daughter, Aimee Dozier Norris of Charlotte; stepsons, Scott Bankhead of Asheboro and Todd Bankhead of Blacksburg, Va.; brother, W.B. dozier of Marion, S.C.; sisters, Dot McIntyre and Shan Williams, both of Marion, S.C.; 10 grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren.

ASHEBORO – David Stafford Everhart, 53, of 1501 Sunset Drive, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008, at Randolph Hospital.

He was a native of Randolph County and was employed with Easy Mart. He was a member of First E & R United Church of Christ where he served as a deacon.
Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Everhart of the home; son, Michael Alan Ridge of Asheboro; mother, Marion T. Lucas of Asheboro; brothers, Randy Everhart, John Everhart and Luke Lucas, all of Asheboro, and Mark Everhart of Maryville, Tenn.; one grandchild.

ASHEBORO – Gary Lee Foster, 42, of Asheboro, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008, at Randolph Hospital.
The funeral was held Jan. 12, 2008, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, with Charles Reeder officiating. Burial was in Randolph Memorial Park.
He was a native of Randolph County, the son of Tulah Kennedy Foster and the late Harold Worth Foster, and a participant in the Special Olympics.

SILER CITY – Myrtle Florence Love Fox, 97, formerly of 651 E. Fifth St., died Jan. 11, 2008, at SunBridge of Asheboro.
The funeral was held Jan. 15, 2008, at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home Chapel of Siler City, with the Rev. Melvin Williamson and the Rev. Jon Ferguson officiating. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery.
She was a native of Moore County, the widow of Everett Fox, a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are her son, Albert Thomas Fox of Asheboro; daughters, Phyllis Goodson of Franklinville and Betty Sands of Asheboro; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren.

ASHEBORO – Roy Gilbert Hill, 63, of 7046 U.S. 64 West, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008, at his home.

He was a native of Randolph County and the owner of Riverside Upholstery and worked part-time at Wal-Mart in Asheboro.

GREENSBORO – Wilma Scott Hodgin, 83, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008, at her home.

She was a native of Randolph County and a long-time member of Southside Baptist Church.

She was a native of Randolph County and retired from Sapona Mfg.

SOPHIA – Bobby Leroy Johnson, 73, of Sophia, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008, at Forsyth Medical Center.

He was a native of Guilford County, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a former owner/operator of the Johnson Field Airport in Sophia.

A graveside service was held Jan. 15, 2008, Charlotte United Methodist Church Cemetery in Asheboro, with the Rev. Jeff Harlow officiating.
She was a native of Marble Hill, Ga., formerly of Randleman and a homemaker.
Surviving are her husband, Kenneth McCain Sr.; sons, Kenneth McCain Jr. of Dayton, Ohio, Terry Mangum and John Massengale, both of Oak Island, and Fred McCain of Randleman; daughter, Ann Saintilien of Southport; seven grandchildren.

She was a native of Philadelphia, Pa., a graduate of Germantown High School, formerly employed with Townsend-Kane Insurance Co. and was a member of Chestertown Baptist Church.

He was a native of Arat, Va., a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict and was retired from Union Carbide/Energizer.
Surviving are his wife, Ellen F. Montgomery; sons, Charles L. Montgomery, Andrew K. Montgomery and John N. Montgomery, all of Asheboro; three step-grandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren.

DENTON – Tyler Chase Owens, 17, of 8636 New Hope Church Road, Denton, N.C. died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008, at his home.

He was a native of Orange County, attended Southwestern Randolph High School and was a member of the Order of DeMolay, Chapter of the Rising Sun.

He was a native of Randolph County, the widower of Mabel McDowell Thomas, retired from Acme-McCrary Hosiery Mill, a member of Huldah Baptist Church and the Lions Club.

She was a native of Montgomery County, the widow of Clyde Tuttle, formerly employed with Nantucket Hosiery and was of the Baptist faith.

ASHEBORO – George Henry Wright, 85, of 1923 Summey Town Road, Trinity, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008, at High Point Regional Hospital.
The funeral was held Jan. 13, 2008, at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Billy Joe Yates officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Cross Christian Church Cemetery with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
He was a native of Randolph County, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a member of Jackson Creek Baptist Church and was retired from B.B. Walker Co.
Surviving are his wife, Clara Pierce Wright; sisters, Pauline King, Jessie May Weaver and Alline Wright, all of Asheboro.
