NC LIVE wins ALA award
ASHEBORO —
NC LIVE, the online research service available through the Randolph County Public Library and 197 other public and academic libraries statewide, has won a national award for making more than 500 hours of PBS videos available online to the public.
The Rethinking Resources Sharing Innovation Award, presented by the American Library Association’s Reference and User Services Association, recognizes innovative library initiatives that completely rethink the way resources are shared in the context of the Internet revolution to improve services to users.
NC LIVE received the award for “significantly improving user access by eliminating the need to share physical copies of the material.”
NC LIVE is the first online library service in the country to offer statewide access to nearly 500 PBS programs, including the series American Experience and Frontline, as well as Ken Burns’ The Civil War, Baseball and Jazz.
NC LIVE is a cooperative virtual library organized by the State Library of North Carolina, the N.C. Community College System, the University of North Carolina and N.C. Independent Colleges and Universities. It provides access to more than 25,000 newspapers, journals, magazines and encyclopedias, and over 25,000 e-books and online audiobooks.
The service is available to all North Carolinians who have a public library card, or a student ID from a community college, UNC system campus or participating independent college/university.
