Donnie White of China Grove and his teammates Billy Lawson of Greensboro, Dwight Crews of Burlington and Terry Jackson of Ether shot a round of 58 to win the annual captain's choice Add Penfield/RCS Golf Classic held May 2 at the Asheboro Country Club.
The foursome were 13 under par for the 18 holes and blistered the back nine holes in 29 strokes with birdies on seven of the nine holes including six in a row.
The four won a scorecard playoff after being tied at 58 with the team of Harry Killian, Marion Griffin, Bob Shaffner and Ralph Eddy of Asheboro.
The RCS Classic is a fundraiser for Regional Consolidated Services of Asheboro. The corporate sponsor for the last nine years has been the Acme-McCrary Corporation and Sapona Manufacturing Company Foundation.
The third place spot was won by Tracy Spencer, A.Z. Wright, Nick Lewis and Roger Lewis. That team was one of three teams tied for third at 59, winning the shootout in a card playoff.
Durham played in the first RCS tourney in 1993 and had only missed one since.
Awards in special events were earned by Brent Siler of Greensboro for the tee shot closest to the pin on No. 3. Siler was given a recliner donated by Klaussner Furniture Industries Inc. Dennis Shoaf won the Celebrity Challenge, Harry Killian had the men's longest drive; Doris Bowman claimed the longest honors for the women; Chris Allred hit the most accurate drive; and Warren Knapp was declared the winner of the putting contest, surviving a three-way tie in a drawing.
A field of 128 golfers took part in the tournament.
