Asheboro

July 12

The fifth annual Jim's Kids Motorcycle Ride is held begining with registration at 10 a.m. at the American Classic Motorcycle Museum, 1170 U.S. 64 West. The cost is $10 per rider. The ride begins at 1:30 p.m. and will end at AVS. Food is included.

July 16

The Randolph County Senior Adults Association is planning a trip to Chinqua Penn Plantation. The cost is $69 per person and must be paid in full by June 16. The cost includes lunch at Golden Corral. The departure time for the trip is 9 a.m. at Memorial Park. July 18

Randolph County Partnership for Children hosts Family Night with the Asheboro Copperheads. Copperheads Beach opens at 6:30 p.m. and the game begins at 7:05 p.m. Advance tickets are $3 for adults. Children under 3 are admitted free. A portion of the advance proceeds will benefit the Randolph County Partnership for Children. Sept. 11

The Randolph County Senior Adults Association is planning a trip to Boone and North Wilkesboro. The cost is $90 per person and must be paid in full by Aug. 11. The trip includes lunch at the Daniel Boone Inn, the Wilkes County Heritage Museum, fresco at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, St. Paul's Episcopal Church to see frescoes and a tour of the Elk Creek Vineyard. The time of departure is 8 a.m. from Memorial Park in Asheboro and the return arrival time is around 7:30 p.m. For more information on the trip or to sign up, call the Asheboro Senior Center at (336) 625-3389 or 1-800-252-2899.

Asheboro Parks & Recreation presents its second Kids Summer Movie Matinee at the Sunset Theatre at 10 a.m. each Thursday through Aug. 21. Movies will includeSwiss Family Robinson (July 3, G), Peter Pan (July 10, PG), The Love Bug (July 17, G), Open Season (July 24, PG), 101 Dalmations (July 31, G), Shrek (Aug. 7, PG), Milo & Otis (Aug. 14, G) and Surf's Up (Aug. 21, PG). Randleman

Oct. 18

The 20th annual NASCAR Day Festival is held from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. in downtown Randleman in conjunction with the Richard Petty Fan Club Convention the same weekend. The festival will end with a fireworks display at 7:30 p.m. near the downtown festival area sponsored by Richard and Lynda Petty. Registration applications for new vendors are available by calling the Randleman Chamber Office at (336) 495-1100.



Outside Randolph County

Greensboro

Free guided tours of battlefields in Guilford Courthouse National Military Park are held beginning at 1 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays through Aug. 10. The tours last about an hour and will begin at the national park visitor center, 2332 New Garden Road. Seating is limited and will be on a first come first served basis.
