A combined choir will perform the Christmas portion of Händel’s oratorio Messiah on Dec. 21 in the sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church. The choir also will perform “Worthy Is The Lamb” and “Hallelujah.” Rick Morgan will conduct.
This project is supported in part by Grassroots Grants funds provided by the N.C. Arts Council as distributed by the Randolph Arts Guild.
Singers from the community who would like to participate with the core group composed of First Presbyterian choristers and chorus students from Southwestern Randolph High School are welcome to join in the project.
Singers are required to attend at least seven of the 10 rehearsals (Sundays from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. beginning Oct. 5) plus the final rehearsal at 10 a.m. Dec. 20. Singers will be required to bring or buy the score, the Watkins Shaw edition published by Novello. The price is $10.
As the first performance of Messiah in 1745 was a charity benefit, this performance will mirror that endeavor. Each singer and member of the audience is asked to bring at least two cans of food for distribution to the needy through Christians United Outreach Center.
Call Morgan at (336) 629-3227 for more information.
