ERHS FFA headed to nationals

RAMSEUR Members of the Eastern Randolph FFA Chapter participated in the 79th State FFA Convention held June 24 through June 26 in Raleigh.

The convention was conducted by the six state FFA officers including Eastern Randolph’s own Caitlin Lowe as the state FFA president.

Several Eastern Randolph FFA members competed in Career Development Events.

The Dairy Foods team placed first in its state level event.

Team members were Jennifer Brown, Courtney Hall, C.J. Humble and Daniel Conrad. Brown was the highest scoring individual in the event.

This team will now compete in the national level event in Indianapolis, Ind., in October as a part of the National FFA Convention.

The Food Science team placed second in its event. Team members were Travis Kinney, Matthew Pierce, Brittany Brower, Megan Wicker and Meghan Dawkins. Randleman FFA was the state winning team.

The Nursery Landscape team placed second in its event. Team members were Travis Black, Elisabeth Gnida and Seth Craven.

Black was the highest scoring individual in the event. Northeastern FFA from Elizabeth City placed first in the event.

The Floriculture Team placed second in its event.

Team members were Ethan Pierce, Eric Hutchins, Maegan Smith and Courtney Clapp. Southern Alamance FFA was the state winning team.

The Tools Identification team consisting of Seth Wright, Cody Gurkin and Troy Anderson placed 14th out of the 52 teams in their event.

Caitlin Lowe, Wesley Corder and Jessica Canoy were recognized as candidates for the American FFA degree, the highest of four degrees of membership in the National FFA Organization.

These FFA members will receive their degree in October at the National FFA Convention.

Three members of the Eastern Randolph FFA Chapter received the state FFA Degree, the third degree of membership.

These students are Eric Hutchins, Megan Wicker and Gabby Poe.

The FFA is a National Organization that has developed a legacy of premier leadership, personal growth and career success.

The Eastern Randolph High School FFA Chapter had 445 FFA members for the 2007-2008 school year.

FFA Advisors are Raymond Caviness, Amy Kidd, Dustin Daniel, Anna Wiest and David Lamb.
