LIBERTY – Ila Kirkman Allred, 92, of Liberty, died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011, at Universal Health Care.

A graveside service was held Dec. 10, 2011, at Fairview Cemetery.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, past member of the Flower Lovers' Garden Club, and had worked for Brower's Store and Thalheimer's before retiring from Ila's Inc.

Survivors include sister-in-law, Alese M. Kirkman; nieces and nephews.

Winfred Cheek

RAMSEUR – Winfred "Wint" Cheek died Monday, Dec. 5, 2011, at Randolph Hospital.

The funeral was held Dec. 10, 2011, at First Pentecostal Church in Asheboro. Burial was at Oakland-McCrary Cemetery.

Survivors include daughters, Teresa Jordan and Linda Patterson, both of Asheboro, Australia Clay and Delores Marks, both of Durham, and Bessie Eubanks of Hillsborough; sons, Carlton Cheek of Maury, Timothy Cheek and Michael Cheek, both of Asheboro, Jesse Cheek and Elworth Cheek, both of Ramseur, Jerry Cheek of Raleigh, and Marvin Goldston of Brooklyn, N.Y.; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.



Gerard Cosmanic

ASHEBORO – Gerard Stephen Cosmanic, 86, of 945 S. Church St., died Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011, at his home.

A private service was held.

Survivors include nieces, Lotte Antoinette De Roy Van Zuydewijn of Asheboro and Dolly De Roy Van Zuydewijn of Portugal.

Evelyn Cress

RANDLEMAN – Evelyn Louise Church Cress, 64, died Friday, Dec. 9, 2011.  

A memorial service was held Dec. 12, 2011, at Pugh Funeral Home.

She was a Buncombe County native, member of Lake Brandt Baptist Church and a Guilford County sheriff’s deputy.                  

Survivors include her husband, Raymond Cress of Randleman; daughters, Rhonda Dillingham of Asheboro and Rebecca Dillingham Panel of Wake Forest; siblings, Lavon Dillingham of Barnardsville, Lynda Davis of Black Mountain, Charles “Buddy” Church of Olive Branch, Miss., and Jeany Shepherd of Anderson, S.C.; three granddaughters.

Ty Hooker

ASHEBORO – William Tyson Hooker, 44, of Asheboro, died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011.

A memorial service will be held later.

Survivors include father, William C. Hooker of Asheboro; mother and stepfather, Ruby B. and Johnny Needham of Asheboro; daughters, Lauren Hooker, Tesha Hooker and Tanya Kaufman, all of Asheboro, and Kristen Cooper of Siler City; sister, Tammy H. Cromer of Asheboro; brother, Randy Hill of Randleman; grandmother, Frances Brewer of Asheboro; companion, Sue Allred of Asheboro; four grandchildren.



Dianne Howell

SOPHIA – Elizabeth Dianne Allred Howell, 60, of 1449 Pinefield Drive, died Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, at Randolph Hospice House.

A memorial service was held Dec. 14, 2011, at Pugh Funeral Home with Hugh Spaulding officiating.

She was an Asheboro native, Eastern Randolph High School graduate and employed by Star Pet.

Survivors include her husband, Randall Howell; sons, Greg "Petie" Davis of Climax, Nick Howell of Fayetteville and Buck Howell of Sophia; mother, Margaret Millikin Allred of Cedar Falls; sisters, Lillie Benbow of Franklinville, Deborah Morris of Asheboro and Teresa Parrish of Franklinville; brothers, Winfred Harold "Buster" Allred Jr. of Asheboro and Bobby Allred of Anderson, S.C.; two grandchildren.

Doris Jones

ARCHDALE – Doris Tuttle Jones, 86, of Cross Road Retirement Community, died Friday, Dec. 9, 2011, at Randolph Hospital.

The funeral was held Dec. 12, 2011, at Cumby Family Funeral Service with Dr. Rodney Otwell and the Rev. Jeff Norton officiating. Burial was at Guilford Memorial Park.

She was a Randolph County native, widow of Arnold Ray Jones, retired from High Point Sewing Machine Co. and member of Cornerstone Baptist Church.

Survivors include son, Kenneth “Ken” R. Jones of Greensboro; sister, Mary Morton of Archdale; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

William Jordan Jr.

ASHEBORO – William Jordan Jr., 87, of Asheboro, died Monday, Dec. 5, 2011, at Randolph Hospice House.

The funeral was held Dec. 7, 2011, at Pugh Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeff Johnson officiating. Burial was at Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a Randolph County native, widower of Jewell Francis Briles Jordan, World War II Army veteran, retired from Galey & Lord and attended Clearview Baptist Church.  

Survivors include daughter, Patricia "Diane" Trull of Asheboro; sister, Margaret Millikan of Asheboro; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.



Agnes Keeling

ASHEBORO – Agnes Millicent Gray Keeling, 99, of Asheboro, died Friday, Dec. 9, 2011, at her home.

The funeral was held Dec. 12, 2011, at New Union United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Neil Crowell and the Rev. George Roberson officiating. Burial was at Oaklawn Cemetery.

She was a Randolph County native, widow of Walter F. Keeling and a homemaker.

Survivors include daughters, Norma Keeling Kennedy, Carol Keeling Rose and Linda Keeling, all of Asheboro; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren.

Eva Lovell

RAMSEUR – Eva Karen Liles Lovell, 66, of Ramseur, died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, at Randolph Health & Rehabilitation.

A graveside service was held Dec. 9, 2011, at Randolph Memorial Park with Pastor Ken Huggins officiating.

She was an Anson County native and a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Daniel Wayne Lovell Sr. of the home; sons, Daniel Wayne Lovell Jr. and Edwin Sean Lovell, both of Asheboro; mother, Paige Hogan; sister, Mary “Jennie” Greene of Lilesville; brothers, Mickey Liles of Rockingham and Jerry Liles of South Carolina; four grandchildren.

Bill Luther

ASHEBORO – Norman Clyde "Bill" Luther, 85, of 1641 Meadowbrook Ext., died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, at Randolph Hospital.

The funeral was held Dec. 10, 2011, at Loflin Funeral Home with the Rev. Reggie Rakes officiating. Burial with military rites was at Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a Randolph County native, widower of Virginia McDaniel Luther, World War II Navy veteran, self-employed furniture maker and member of Pentecostal Victory Temple.

Survivors include stepdaughter, Penny Clay of South Boston, Va.; stepsons, Willie Clay and David Clay, both of South Boston, Va.

Keith McNeill

ASHEBORO – Keith Charles McNeill, 42, died Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011, at Beckley, W.Va.

The funeral was held at Look to Jesus Christian Center.

He was a Randolph County native, attended Randolph County Schools and employed as a chef.

Survivors include his wife, Ramona T. McNeill of the home; children, Manola Brower of Lumberton, Aaron Browner of Liberty, Arey Brower and Kerry Brower, both of Asheboro, and Kanesha Austin, Tiesha Austin and Kevonna Austin, all of Beckley, W.Va.; parents, Willie L. and Velma M. Campbell of Asheboro; siblings, Sacha Campbell-Brower of Asheboro, Willie James Campbell of Charlotte and Octavia Fulton of Winston Salem.



Douglas Peele

STAR – Douglas Keith Peele, 53, of Star, died Monday, Dec. 5, 2011.

The funeral was held Dec. 8, 2011, at Union Grove Baptist Church, where he was a member, with Dr. Ronnie Chaney officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery.

He was a Guilford County native and formerly employed by High Point Fibers.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Cranford Peele; daughters, Kimberly Heath of Rural Hall and Amber Dees of Randleman; sons, Michael Peele of Asheboro and Brandon Reynolds of Eagle Springs; mother, Mary Farmer Peele of Asheboro; sister, Elizabeth Hunt of Asheboro; brother, Billy Peele of Archdale; six grandchildren.

Pamela Perdue

GREENSBORO – Pamela Key Perdue, 55, formerly of Asheboro, died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011.

A memorial service was held Dec. 11, 2011, at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel.

She was a Randolph County native, Asheboro High School graduate and a Baptist.

Survivors include her husband, Morris R. Perdue; daughters, Crystal Wise, Jeana Taylor and Leslie Perdue; sons, Nicholas Perdue, Christopher Perdue, Tyler Perdue and Daniel Strider; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Key; sisters, Cindy Hockett, Lynn Hayes and Amanda Ragsdale; five grandchildren.

Doris Pope

ARCHDALE – Doris Mae Pope, 82, died Friday, Dec. 9, 2011.

The funeral was held Dec. 13, 2011, at Cumby Family Funeral Service with the Rev. Bill Sessoms officiating. Burial was at Floral Garden Memorial Park.

She was a Forsyth County native, member of Archale Church of the Nazarene, and retired from Silver Knit Hosiery and K-Mart.

Survivors include her husband, Ray Pope; daughters, Elaine Thomas and Susan Brewer; son, Randy Pope; sisters, Joyce Griffey, Roma Bolling and Brenda Draughn; brother, Ed Wishon; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Danny Pugh

CONCORD – Danny Davis Pugh, 65, of Concord, died Monday, Dec. 5, 2011, at Carolina Medical Center.

The funeral was held Dec. 9, 2011, at Pugh Funeral Home with Dr. Bob Medford officiating. Burial was at Oaklawn Cemetery.

He was a Randleman High School and N.C. State Agricultural Institute graduate and retired from Boral Brick.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly Shaw Pugh; daughter, Kelly P. Hinebaugh of Concord; two grandchildren.



George Reis

SOPHIA – George William Reis, 67, of Sophia, died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011, at his home.

A memorial service was held Dec. 9, 2011, at Pugh Funeral Home with the Rev. Phillip Kollithanath officiating.

He was a Cinncinatti native, building contractor and a Catholic.  

Survivors include daughters, Robin Bailey of Florida, Venice Littleton of Hawaii and Lena Troxtell of Pleasant Garden; sons, George Reis of Sophia and William Reis of Randleman; sister, Virginia "Ginny" Reis; brothers, Richard Reis and Bud Reis; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Diane Robinson

LIBERTY – Diane Semones Robinson, 64, died Monday, Dec. 5, 2011, at her home.

The funeral was held Dec. 8, 2011, at Piney Grove United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Jim Folks and the Rev. Herbert Lowry officiating. Burial was at Semones Cemetery, Hillsville, Va.

She was a Hillsville, Va., native and retired from Chatham Middle School, Siler City, where she was teacher of the year four times.

Survivors include her husband, Allen Robinson; children, Christie Cooper, Karen Hardin and Daniel Robinson; sisters, Elizabeth Smythers, Irleen Largen, Christine Patton and Esther Bryant; brothers, Orba Semones, Norman Semones and Leo Semones; seven grandchildren.

Chesley Thomas Jr.

ASHEBORO – Chesley Lee Thomas Jr., 67, of 200 E. Strider St., died Friday, Dec. 2, 2011, at his home.

The funeral was held Dec. 7, 2011, at Mt. Calvary Independent Baptist Church with Pastor Neil Poole, the Rev. Jimmy Shirlen and Pastor Jonathan Burris officiating.

He was an Asheboro native and retired from Acme-McCrary.

Survivors include daughter, Pamela McDonald of Asheboro; sisters, Sarah Uylaky of Meriden, Conn., and Lola Smith, Carrie Voncannon and Pat McNeill, all of Asheboro; brothers, James Thomas of Martinsville, Va., Bobby Thomas of Tucson, Ariz., Michael Thomas of Browns Mill, N.J., and W.R. Thomas of Asheboro; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Candace Toomes

CLIMAX – Candace Michele "Candy" Mashburn Toomes, 43, of 3705 Lilliewood Lane, died Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011.

The funeral was held Dec. 9, 2011, at All Saints Episcopal Church.

Candy's career included time as a news photographer for the Hickory Daily Record and the Asheboro Tribune. She later worked on her own as a commercial photographer. She also worked for a time at the AMP Inc. plant in Winston Salem.

She was a Greensboro native, Eastern Randolph High School and Randolph Community College graduate, and had worked for the Hickory Daily Record, the Courier-Tribune and AMP Inc.

Survivors include her husband, Rick Toomes; stepsons, Aaron and Nick Toomes; parents, Ronny K. and Penny C. Mashburn; grandparents, Gaynell Mashburn of Nantahala and Henry L. and Ruth Coble of Greensboro.

Annie Wishon

TRINITY – Annie Laura McGee Wishon, 80, formerly of Trinity, died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, at Wilson Medical Center.

The funeral was held Dec. 10, 2011, at Cumby Family Funeral Service with the Rev. Harold Shives officiating. Burial was at Poplar Ridge Friends Meeting cemetery.

She was a Trinity native, Poplar Ridge School and Trinity High School graduate, attended Neighbors Grove Wesleyan and Allen Jay Baptist churches, retired from the textile industry and later worked at Wal-Mart.

Survivors include her husband, John “Ed” Wishon of the home; children, Barry Wishon of Raleigh, LeAnn Poole of Asheboro, Philip Wishon of Trinity and Patty Cranford of Archdale; brothers and sisters, James McGee of Asheboro, Margaret Carter and Frances Cook, both of Trinity, and Sam McGee of Pleasant Garden; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
