Monday, August 5, 2013 — Ralph Davis

ASHEBORO — Ralph Farrell Davis, 81, of Asheboro, died Friday, July 12, 2013, at Randolph Health & Rehabilitation.

The funeral with military rites was held July 14 at Ridge Funeral Home by the Rev. Kenneth Reaves.

He was a Randolph County native, Korean War Army veteran, had worked for Ramtex, member of Balfour Baptist Church, Boy Scout Troop 521 scoutmaster and member of the Lion’s Club.

Surviving are wife, Bobbie J. Davis of the home; daughter, Julie Davis Brown of Asheville; son, Ralph “Dave” Davis Jr. of Asheboro; sisters, Myrna Jean Kinsey of Greensboro, Dolores Lee Miller, Elaine Ragsdale, both of Asheboro; two grandchildren.

Jeffery Endicott

DENTON — Jeffery Kiser Endicott, 25, of Denton, died Monday, July 8, 2013, at his home.

A memorial service was held July 11 at Ridge Funeral Home by the Rev. Mike Stumbo.

He was a Randolph County native.

Surviving are wife, Rachel Kelly Endicott of the home; daughter, Morgan Endicott of the home; parents, Walter Endicott Jr. and Rhonda Wolford Endicott of Asheboro; sisters, Tember Leanne White, Tera Reanna Endicott, both of Asheboro; grandmothers, Dorothy Wolford of Tennessee, Victoria Stacy of Asheboro.



Ruth Gray

ASHEBORO — Ruth Parks Gray, 94, of Asheboro, died Thursday, July 11, 2013, at Randolph Hospice House.

The funeral was held July 13 at Pugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Garland Hall. Burial was at Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a Randolph County native and attended High Pine Wesleyan Church.  

Surviving are husband, Curtis R. Gray; sons, C. Jerry Gray, Terry E. Gray, both of Asheboro; daughter, Ann G. Strider of Asheboro; sister, Ruby Callicutt of Asheboro; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Ruth Hill

RANDLEMAN — Ruth Hill, 82, of Randleman, died Thursday, July 11, 2013.

The funeral was held July 14 at Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church, where she was a member, by the Rev. Carol Hunter.

She was the widow of Cecil R. Hill, retired from Sew Special and Randleman Public Library, and had volunteered at Randleman and Level Cross schools.  

Surviving are daughters, Ellen B. Hill of Randleman, Susan H. Beeson of Advance; brother, Bill Glenn of Randleman; sisters, Martha Brown of Asheboro, Lou Hill of Illinois; six grandchildren.

Rebecca Irby

CHARLOTTE — Rebecca Lewallen Irby, 72, of Charlotte, formerly of Asheboro, died Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at her home.  

A graveside service was held July 15 at Oaklawn Cemetery, Charlotte.

She was an Asheboro native, widow of George Preston Irby, a homemaker and member of West Bend United Methodist Church, Asheboro.

Surviving are brother, David Lewallen of Asheboro; nieces and nephews.

Joyce Jones

ARCHDALE — Joyce Darlene Jones, 88, of Archdale, died Sunday, July 14, 2013.

No service was held.

Surviving are daughters, Jaclyn Jo Walker of Charleston, S.C., Kim Hillebrand of Kernersville; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.



Chad King

ASHEBORO — Chad Anthony King, 19, of Asheboro, died Thursday, July 11, 2013, at Wake Forest Baptist Health.

The funeral was held July 16 at Panther’s Creek Baptist Church. Burial was at the church cemetery.

He was a Randolph County native.

Surviving are parents, Ronnie and Bonnie Lisa Kern King of the home; sisters, Faith King of the home, Patricia Pecorella of Asheboro; grandparents, Michael and Nancy Kern, Paul King, all of Asheboro; great-grandmother, Ruby Beane of Star.

Bill Kirby

ASHEBORO — William “Bill” Kirby, 69, of Asheboro, died Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at his home.

A memorial service was held July 14 at First Presbyterian Church, where he was a member, by the Rev. Connie Weaver and the Rev. Brian Gawf.

He was a Wilmington native, president of Central Gas and Kirby Motor Lines, and member of the Antique Truck Historical Society and the Shriners.  

Surviving are wife, Sue Williams Kirby; son, Brad Kirby.

Hazel Land

ARCHDALE — Hazel Pearson Land, 86, of Archdale, died Monday, July 8, 2013.

A graveside service was held July 10 at Floral Garden Memorial Park by the Rev. Bob Summers.

Hazel was the widow of William Land Sr.

Surviving are son, Bill Land of Birmingham, Ala.; brother, James Pearson of Archdale; sisters, Blanche Gregory, Virginia Bowden, both of Reno, Nev.



Joyce Langley

FLAT ROCK — Joyce Filler Langley, 83, of Easley, S.C., formerly of Asheboro, died Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at Flat Rock.

A memorial service will be held later.

She was a Summit, N.J., native, a homemaker and member of Spoons Chapel Christian Church.

Surviving are daughters, Debie Williams of Easley, S.C., Vicky Jones of Ocen Isle Beach; son, Gus C. Langley Jr. of Asheboro; sister, Shirley Filler Dickerson of Hattisburg, Miss.; four grandchildrenp; three great-grandchildren.



Cynthia Lee

LIBERTY — Cynthia Jean Hendershot Lee, 42, of Liberty, died Friday, July 12, 2013, at Randolph Hospital.

She was a Hunterdon County, N.J., native.

Surviving are parents, William “Pete” and Virginia Suk Hendershot; fiancé, Robbie Presnell; sons, John Varcadipane, Matt Varcadipane; one grandson.



Colleen Lewis

GREENSBORO — Colleen Juliann Lewis, 45, of Greensboro, died Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at Randolph Hospital.

A memorial service was held July 13 at Burnetts Chapel United Methodist Church by the Rev. Karen Gobel.

She was a Passaic County, N.J., native and worked in the Asheboro High School cafeteria.

Surviving are husband, Randy Lewis; sons, Andrew Tanzola, Daniel Tanzola, Tony Tanzola; daughter, Brittney Tanzola; stepson, Zack Lewis; parents, Janice and Ken Davis; sister, Kimberly Kopack.



Claude Mitchell

ASHEBORO — Claude Junior Mitchell, 89, of 1302 Old Cox Road, died Saturday, July 13, 2013, at Randolph Hospice House.

The funeral was held July 16 at Cross Road Baptist Church by the Rev. Johnny Henderson and the Rev. Greg Arnold. Burial with military rites was at Hams Grove Baptist Church cemetery, Statesville.

He was an Alexander County native, widower of Mary Katherine Mitchell, World War II Navy veteran, member of Cochran Street Baptist Church, Statesville, former owner of 115 Upholstery and retired from Thomasville Furniture.

Surviving are daughters, Renea Henderson of Asheboro, Kathy Miller of Statesville; son, Claude LaVon Mitchell of Statesville; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

Baxter Phillips

ASHEBORO — Baxter Talmadge Phillips, 87, of Asheboro, died Saturday, July 13, 2013, at his home.

The funeral was held July 15 at Fayetteville Street Baptist Church, where he was a member, by Pastor Jack Phillips, Pastor Adrian Pugh, the Rev. Bruce Dickerson and the Rev. Bud Parker. Burial with military rites was at Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a Moore County native, World War II Navy veteran, member of the Fayetteville Street Christian School Board of Directors and owner of Phillips Brothers Country Ham.

Surviving are wife, Margaret Phillips; daughter, Dianne Craven of Asheboro; sister, Dee Warren of Southern Pines; one grandson.

Barbara Skeen

ASHEBORO — Barbara Ann Perryman Skeen, 73, of Asheboro, died Sunday, July 7, 2013.

The funeral was held July 10 at Ridge Funeral Home by the Rev. Don Ashley. Burial was at Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a Davidson County native, widow of Thomas E. Skeen and member of Liberty Road Baptist Church.

Surviving are son, Timothy E. Skeen Sr.; daughters, Debra Hall, Sherri Johnson, Linda Reeder, Tammi Brown; brother, John Perryman; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.



Virginia Smith

ASHEBORO — Virginia Lee Hancock Smith, 88, of Asheboro, died Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at Randolph Hospice House.

The funeral was held July 13 at Asheboro Friends Meeting, where she was a member, by the Rev. Pat Thames, the Rev. Ken Thames and the Rev. David Millikan. Burial was at Randolph Memorial Park.

She was an Asheboro native, widow of Ed Smith, retired from General Electric, and member of Eastview Garden Club, Asheboro Civitans and the McDonald’s senior bingo group.  

Surviving are son, Rick Smith of Oak Island; four granddaughters; three great-grandchildren.

Kay Tichay

ASHEBORO — Kay Tichay, 93, died Sunday, July 7, 2013.

A graveside service will be held in New York.

She was the widow of Howard P. Tichay.

Surviving are sister, Gladys de Peyster; son, Eric P. Tichay; daughter, Kathleen Palmer; one grandson; one stepgreat-grandson; one great-granddaughter.
