ASHEBORO —  

Donald Bell

ASHEBORO – Donald Franklin Bell, 77, of Asheboro, died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012, at his home. 

No service was held. He was a Guilford County native. 

Survivors include daughters, Elizabeth Jane Bell of Climax, Charlene B. Watson of Troy; son, Dwight Lynn Bell of Asheboro; brother, Roger Bell of Asheboro; four grandchildren. 

 

Ronald Brown

ASHEBORO – Ronald Edison Brown, 61, of 823 Green Farm Road, died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2012, at Randolph Hospice House. 

A memorial service was held Aug. 8, 2012, at Pugh Funeral Home with the Rev. Pat Dixon officiating.

He was a former greenskeeper at Asheboro Country Club. 

Survivors include his wife, Lee Lewis Brown; son, Chris Edison Brown of Millboro; parents, Gladys Routh and George Edison Brown of Millboro; sisters, Janice Julian of Millboro and Teresa Richardson of Climax; two grandchildren.

Elizabeth Burnham

SEAGROVE – Elizabeth Merry Burnham, 2, of Seagrove, died Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, at UNC Hospitals. 

The funeral was held Aug. 10, 2012, at Pugh Funeral Home with the Rev. Howard McNeill officiating. Burial was at New Hope Memorial Gardens. 

Survivors include parents, Timothy and Jeanna Butcher Burnham; brother, Mikey Burnham of the home; grandparents, Doris Butcher of Seagrove, Eddie Butcher and Tim Burnham of Seagrove; great-grandmother, Etta Butcher. 

 

Recil Chriscoe

SEAGROVE – Recil Clyde Chriscoe, 65, of Seagrove, died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012, at his home.

The funeral was held Aug. 12, 2012, at Trinity Wesleyan Church with the Rev. George Simmons and the Rev. Clayton Stoneman officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery.

He was a Randolph County native, owner of Chriscoe's Body Shop and an antiques dealer. 

Survivors include his wife, Linda Sanders Chriscoe of the home; daughters, Tina Chriscoe of Charlotte and Belinda C. Drews of Greensboro; sister, Blanche C. Cox of Seagrove; brothers, Farrell Chriscoe and Curtis Chriscoe, both of Seagrove; two grandchildren.

Larry Clark

SOPHIA – Larry Jackson Clark, 68, of Sophia, died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2012, at High Point Regional Hospital. 

A memorial service was held Aug. 8, 2012, at Cumby Family Funeral Service with the Rev. Harold Shives officiating.

He was a Martinsville, Va., native, a Methodist and retired from R.K. Stewart & Sons. 

Survivors include his wife, Betty Jackson Clark of the home; daughters, Sherri Smith of Thomasville and Gerri Tickle of Trinity; son, Joseph Clark of Randleman; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter.

Joe Cook

ARCHDALE – Joe “Joey” Cook, 59, of Archdale, died Friday, Aug. 10, 2012, at his home. 

The funeral was held Aug. 14, 2012, at Cumby Family Funeral Service with the Rev. Steve Jones officiating. Burial was at Fairview United Methodist Church cemetery.

He was a High Point native, a truck driver and retired from Harris-Teeter. 

Survivors include his wife, Glenda Tyndall Cook of the home; children, Adam Cook of Archdale and Jennifer Howard of Sophia; sisters, Jan Trotter of Asheboro and Gaye Smith of King; five grandchildren.

Charles Cox

ASHEBORO – Charles Edward "Charlie" Cox, 71, of 1126 Timberlane, died Friday, Aug. 10, 2012, at his home. 

The funeral was held Aug. 13, 2012, at Pugh Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Moger and the Rev. David Hunt officiating. Burial with military rites was at New Hope Memorial Gardens. 

Mr. Cox was a Randolph County native, Air Force veteran, member of Faith Baptist Church, retired from Lowe's Hardware and employed by the Courier-Tribune. 

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Stockwell Cox; daughter, Lisa Cox Edmisten of Bear Creek; son, Kevin Lee Cox of Asheboro; stepdaughter, Kim Kirkman of Supply; sisters, Blanche Powell, Rachel Davis, Irene Surratt, Margaret Ester and Martha Williamson, all of Randleman, Doris Beason of Franklinville, and Louvelia Morris of Asheboro; brothers, James Ray Cox and Wayne Cox, both of Asheboro, and Percy Cox Jr. of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren

Nell Davis

ASHEBORO – Nell James Davis, 90, of 926 Sequoia Ave., died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2012, at her home. 

The funeral was held Aug. 8, 2012, at Pugh Funeral Home with the Rev. Barry Wall officiating. Burial was at Randolph Memorial Park. 

She was an Alexander County native, a Baptist and former owner of Gosnell Pest Control in Conway, S.C. 

Survivors include sisters, Shirley J. Yow of Seagrove and Ethel Williams of Randleman; nieces and nephews. 

 

Bobby Hinshaw

ASHEBORO – Bobby Lowe Hinshaw, 79, of Asheboro, died Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home. 

A memorial service was held Aug. 8, 2012, at Pugh Funeral Home.

He was a Randolph County native, retired from Union Carbide, past president of North Asheboro Lions Club, member of Asheboro Masonic Lodge, member of Oasis Shrine Temple in Charlotte and past president of Randolph Shrine Club.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Owen Hinshaw; daughter, Teresa H. Danco of Asheboro; son, Larry Hinshaw of Banner Elk; two grandchildren.

Thelma Jordan

ASHEBORO – Thelma Sheffield Sikes Jordan, 91, died Friday, Aug. 10, 2012, at Randolph Hospice House. 

A memorial service was held Aug. 12, 2012, at Central Falls Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Gerald Hussey officiating. Burial was at Oaklawn Cemetery. 

She was a Randolph County native, widow of Woodrow Sikes and Raymond Jordan, and had worked for Randolph Hospital.

Survivors include daughters, Etta J. Fields of Jamestown, Yvonne Spinks of Trinity and Carolyn Angel of Asheboro; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

Laura Kerney

TROY – "Laura" Keigh Scott Kerney, 31, of Loftin Street, died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012, at Frye Regional Medical Center, Hickory. 

Visitation was Aug. 12, 2012, at Laurel Hill Baptist Church, Candor

She was an Asheboro native, employed by Community One Bank and member of Ducks Unlimited. 

Survivors include her husband, James Kerney Jr. of the home; mother, Pearl Wallace of Rockingham; father, Robert Scott of Seagrove; stepfather, Bobby Mathis of Robbins; siblings, Judi Wallace of Rockingham, Heather Cope of Madison, Julie Turner of Franklinville, Robin Smith of Archdale, Amy Updike of Bedford, Va., Layne Wallace of Clayton, Tony Greene of Moberly, Mo., and Jennifer Greene of Thornton, Colo.; grandparents, Hoy and Peggy Poole of Troy. 

 

David Killian

ARCHDALE – David E. Killian, 58, died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012, at Hospice Home at High Point. 

A memorial service was held Aug. 12, 2012, at Cumby Family Funeral Service with the Rev. Crawford Crenshaw officiating.

He was a Murphy native, retired from Dar-Ran Furniture and member of Trinity Heights Wesleyan Church. 

Survivors include his wife, Janie Pearson; daughter, Tracey Christine Killian; mother, Doris Killian.

Harold Kivett

LIBERTY – William Harold Kivett, 83, of 7363 Ferguson Road, died Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, at Universal Health Care. 

The funeral was held Aug. 9, 2012, at Whites Chapel United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Randy Kelley and the Rev. Richard Booker officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery. 

He was a Randolph County native, attended Ramseur High School, retired from Glendon Pyrophylite, inductee into the N.C. American Legion Baseball Hall of Fame and awarded the Unsung Hero Award from the N.C. High School Athletics Association, recipient of the American Legion Citation for Meritorious Service Award, coached Liberty Post 81 and Ramseur Post 125 Legion baseball, and played baseball in the Deep River League, Ramseur High School, the McCrary Eagles, and Ramseur Shell.  

Survivors include his wife, Louise Ingram Kivett; sons, Mitchell Kivett of Snow Camp, Steve Kivett of Liberty and Neill Kivett of Ramseur; brothers, John Henry Kivett of Climax, and Wayne Kivett and James Kivett, both of Liberty; three grandchildren.

Walter Langley

LIBERTY – Walter Roger Langley, 76, of Liberty, died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2012, at his home.

The funeral was held Aug. 7, 2012, at Loflin Funeral Home. Burial was at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church cemetery

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Hilliard Langley; sons, Douglas Ray Langley and Roger Timothy Langley, both of Staley; stepdaughter, Nikki Barrett of Staley; stepsons, Jeffrey Richardson of Liberty and Ken Richardson of Holden Beach; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Kathleen Massey

ASHEBORO – Kathleen Delores Massey, 57, of 5073 Seagrove Plank Road, died Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, at her home. 

No service was held. She was a Washington, D.C., native. 

Survivors include her husband, Edwin Pierce Massey; son, Jesse McCoy of Salisbury, Md.; two grandchildren. 

 

Dwight Nelson

TRINITY – Paul Dwight "Heavy Daddy" Nelson, 64, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, at Hospice Home at High Point. 

The funeral was held Aug. 9, 2012, at Cumby Family Funeral Service with the Rev. Ron Jones and the Rev. Tommy Thompson officiating. Burial was at Floral Garden Memorial Park.

He was a High Point native, Allen Jay High School graduate and retired from Davis Furniture & Tires. 

Survivors include his wife, Janice Marshall Nelson of the home; son, Tony Nelson of Trinity; brother, Carlton Dewitt Nelson of Trinity; sister, Cynthia Benfield of Thomasville.

Jackson Presnell

RAMSEUR – Jackson Watson Presnell, 3, of Ramseur, died Monday, Aug. 6, 2012.

The funeral was held Aug. 9, 2012, at Loflin Funeral Home. 

Survivors include parents, Joseph Presnell and Ashley Watson; sister, Raylin Grace Presnell; grandparents, Barry and Sheila Presnell, and Billy and Terri Watson, all of Liberty.

Bessie Stafford

ASHEBORO – Bessie Marie Rayhill Stafford, 99, formerly of Sherwood Oaks Drive, died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, at Woodland Hill Care & Rehabilitation. 

A graveside service was held Aug. 13, 2012, at Oaklawn Cemetery with Dr. Richard Crider officiating. 

She was a Hickman, Ky., native, widow of Jesse Stafford, formerly employed by the Sunset Theater, the Anchor Store and Asheboro Drug, retired from Merle Norman Cosmetics and member of Oakhurst Baptist Church. 

Survivors include two grandchildren; two great-granddaughters.

Ronald Wicker

LIBERTY – Ronald Lee Wicker, 74, died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012. 

The funeral was held Aug. 12, 2012, at Bethlehem United Methodist Church. Burial was at Gilmore Memorial Park.

He was an Alamance County native, Liberty High School and Virginia Technical College graduate, retired from Hardin's Wholesale Florist, and former member of the Julian Fire Department and the Julian Lions Club.

Survivors include his wife, Ethel Wicker; daughter, Tammy Flinchum; son, Ryan Wicker; brothers, Ralph Wicker Sr., H.B. Wicker Jr., Wayne Wicker and Ernest Wicker; sisters, Juanita Tiger, Sallie Gardner and Carolyn Sluter; three grandsons.
