Pattye Harris – Goldstons celebrate

Bobby and Nancy Siler Goldston of the Stout’s Chapel Community left home on a recent Saturday evening with their granddaughter Tiffany thinking they were on their way to Greensboro for dinner at a nice restaurant. Tiffany said they had to swing by his church (Stout’s Chapel UMC) because Bobby was needed over there. She wasn’t really telling a fib: He really was needed there, because it’s where family and friends were waiting to surprise the Goldstons on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary. The celebration was given by the families of the couple. Nieces, nephews, cousins and friends were there from various cities and towns in North Carolina and many other states.

Bobby and Nancy have touched the lives of so many people with their loving, caring, helping and sharing attitude. Nancy opened her heart to the numerous children she baby sat in her home over the years. Many, now adults, were at the celebration.

They have one daughter, Nancy Josephine Burnett, who says of her parents: “They have taught me the true meaning of devotion, commitment and love. I have watched them stand by each other through the best and worst of times. I am truly blessed and thankful to have them as my parents.”

This is a message from their granddaughter Tiffany: “Thank you for everything you have done for my family and me, and what you have meant to me over the years. Thanks for being such wonderful grandparents, and for what you do for others. We love you.”

I usually ask the anniversary couple if they have any advice for young people considering marriage. Nancy’s advice is “to pray, trust in the Lord and work together.” Bobby advises them to make sure they know each other’s background. He mentioned an old song, “Get to Know Her.”
