The N.C. Agribusiness Council released a report recently detailing the economic impact of the agriculture and agribusiness industry on the state. The report revealed that agriculture and agribusiness accounted for $70.8 billion in 2006, or 19 percent, of the state’s economy.
Sen. Jerry Tillman, R-Randolph/Montgomery, said the report is good news for the state and his district.
“A lot of people are uncertain about the economy, but this is definitely a positive indication of the strength of our agriculture industry,” he said.
The findings were published in conjunction with economist and Professor William Neal Reynolds and Mike Walden of the N.C. State University College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
