Billy Ray Akers
FRANKLINVILLE - Billy Ray Akers of 3602 Tom Brown Road, Franklinville, died Thursday, April 24, 2008, at Moses H. Cone Hospital, Greensboro.
No services were held.
He was a native of McVeigh, Ky., and was retired as a factory machine operator.
Surviving are his son, Timothy Shawn Akers of Wisconsin; daughters, April Dawn Wilmer and Cathy Sue Akins, both of North Carolina; stepsons, John "Buck" Kennedy of North Carolina and Dewayne Kennedy of West Virginia; stepdaughters, Jessica Poole of North Carolina and Mary Stafford of West Virginia; sisters, Clary Jean Queen of Kentucky, Minnie Ethel May of Maryland and Kathy Hatfield of Ohio; brothers, Frank Akers Jr., Donnie Akers and Bruce Akers, all of Kentucky, Paul Akers and James Akers, both of Michigan, and Michael Akers, Ronnie Akers and Roger Akers, all of Florida; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
Terry R. Allen
RAMSEUR - Terry Ray Allen, 75, of 4696 Ira McGee Road, Ramseur, died Monday, April 21, 2008, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro.
The funeral was held April 24, 2008, at Holly Spring Friends Meeting with the Rev. Todd Brown officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
He was a native of Randolph County, retired from Ramseur Interlock and a member of Holly Spring Friends Meeting.
Surviving are his wife, Louise Hilliard Allen of the home; son, Ricky Allen of Ramseur; daughter, Robin Allen of Seagrove; sisters, Eloese Cox of Ramseur; one grandchild; one stepgreat-grandchild.

Irene P. Cox
RAMSEUR - Irene Phillips Cox, 86, of 1235 N.C. 22 S., Ramseur, died Friday, April 25, 2008, at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.
The funeral was held April 28, 2008, at Parks Cross Roads Christian Church with the Rev. Randy Kelley, the Rev. Richard Gray and the Rev. James Turner officiating. Burial was in Sunset Knoll Cemetery.
She was a native of Chatham County, retired from Acme-McCrary Hosiery Mill and a member of Parks Cross Roads Christian Church.
Surviving are her husband, Raymond C. Cox of the home; daughter, Lala Cox Allen Gibbs of Siler City; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

SEAGROVE - Dalton Clyde Davis, 69, of 2128 Dover Church Road, died Saturday, April 26, 2008, in Seagrove.
The funeral was held April 29, 2008, at Dover Baptist Church with Dr. Don Davis officiating. Burial with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard was in Dover Baptist Church Cemetery.
He was a native of Montgomery County, a U.S. Army veteran and was a construction worker.
Surviving are his wife, Catherine Mills Davis of the home; daughters, Karen Lineberry of Star, Sharon Pugh of Asheboro, Teresa White of Bramwell, W.Va., and Amy Upchurch of Randleman; son, Dalton Lee Davis of Star; sisters, Lucendy Smith of Seagrove, Amy Hurley of Troy and Lena Brown of Asheboro; brothers, Harvey Davis and Waylon Davis, both of Seagrove, and Winford Davis of Star; 16 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
Jack W. Griffith Sr.
ASHEBORO - Jack William Griffith Sr., 81, of Asheboro, died Monday, April 21, 2008, at Sunbridge of Asheboro.
A graveside service was held April 24, 2008, at Oaklawn Cemetery with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
He was a native of Surry County, a veteran of the U.S. Army, a retired electrician and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are his daughter, Tammy Sue Griffith of Blowing Rock; son, Jack William Griffith Jr.; one sister; three grandchildren.
Hazel I. Gunter
RANDLEMAN - Hazel Irene Marsh Gunter, 85, formerly of 141 Worthville Road, Randleman, died Thursday, April 24, 2008, at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.
A graveside service was held April 27, 2008, at Randolph Memorial Park in Asheboro.
She was a native of St. Pauls, the widow of Jesse Gunter, and was retired from Commonwealth Hosiery in Randleman.
Surviving are her daughters, Iris G. Luck of Randleman and Linda Gunter of St. Pauls; son, Roger Craig Gunter of Norfolk, Va.; sister, Opal Norton of Virginia Beach, Va.; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

Clay L. Hatchel
RAMSEUR - Clay Lee Hatchel, 38, of 699 Wright Country Road, died Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at Annie Penn Hospital in Reidsville.
The funeral was held April 27, 2008, at Bible Truth Church with Rusty Parsons and the Rev. L. N. Stanley officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
He was a Guilford County native, employed by Swaim Electric, a 1988 graduate of Southern Guilford High School and a member of Bible Truth Church.
Surviving are his wife, Alison Sue Stanley of the home; sons, Dustin Hatchel and Austin Hatchel, both of the home; daughter, Brooke Hatchel of the home; brother, Thomas Hatchel of Pleasant Garden; grandmother, Ruth Hatchel Perry of Pleasant Garden.

RANDLEMAN - Elsie Slate Hodges, 86, of 6348 Lowe Drive, Randleman, died Thursday, April 24, 2008, at High Point Regional Hospital in High Point.
The funeral was held April 27, 2008, at Worthville Baptist Church in Randleman with the Rev. Junior Dawkins and the Rev. C.J. York officiating. Burial was in Randolph Memorial Park in Asheboro.
She was a native of Patrick County, Va., the widow of Manuel Joseph Hodges, a member of Worthville Baptist Church and was retired from Fox Apparel (Mr. Jeans) of Randleman.
Surviving are her son, Joe Hodges of Randleman; sisters, Margie Goins and Shirley Parrish of Stokesdale; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren.

Connie Bittner Lemmons
ASHEBORO - Connie Bittner Lemmons, 54, of 1319 Old Liberty Road, Apt. B., Asheboro, died Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at Randolph Hospital.
A graveside service was held April 28, 2008, at Randolph Memorial Park with the Rev. Canon R. Larry Emerson, Vicar officiating.
She had lived in Asheboro since 1963 and was a graduate of Asheboro High School.
Surviving are her brother, Ray Bittner of Belle Visa, Ark.

She was a native of Randolph County, a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Grove Christian Church.
Surviving are son, Charles Leonard of Norfolk, Va.; daughters, Shirley Leonard of Asheboro and Nancy Hayes of Erect; stepdaughter, Bobbie Brown of Columbia, S.C.; sister, Jacksie Long of Worthville; brother, Bicket Ward of Central Falls; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

GREENSBORO - Howard Buster Macon, 91, of 5407 Drake Road, died Sunday, April 20, 2008, at High Point Regional Hospital.
The funeral was held March 25, 2008, at Community Baptist Church in Greensboro with the Rev. Donna Moore and the Rev. J. R. Gossett officiating. Burial was in Community Baptist Church Cemetery.
He was a native of Randolph County, the widower of Della Macon, a graduate of Coleridge High School, and a U.S. Air Force veteran of WW II.
Surviving are sisters, Willie Ester Fesmire of Archdale and Beatrice Fabrezio of Courtland, N.Y.; brother, Jack Ferman Macon of Seagrove.
Maxine B. Nelson
RAMSEUR - Maxine Eugenia Beane Nelson, 75, of 7166 Jordan Road, formerly of Grays Chapel, died Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at Universal Health Care in Ramseur.
No services were held. She was a native of Randolph County and a homemaker.
Surviving are her daughter, Debbie Stewart of Asheboro; sister, Betty Ellis of Franklinville; brothers, Erman Beane and James Reeder, both of Franklinville; one grandchild.

ASHEBORO - Kathryn LePore Owen, 63, died Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at her home.

She was a native of Nyack, N.Y., and was retired from Randolph County Schools as a teacher assistant.

She was a native of Wise County, Va., the widow of Charles West Sr. and retired from retail sales.

The funeral was held April 30, 2008, at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel in Randleman with the Rev. Perry Brown and the Rev. Gary Hill officiating. Burial was in Randolph Memorial Park in Asheboro.
She was a native of Liberty, a graduate of the 1949 Class of Liberty High School, a homemaker and a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Liberty and attended Solid Rock Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, William M. "Bill" Wicker; daughters, Janice Wicker of the home, Paula Cain of Randleman and Tammy Crotts of Seagrove; sons, Douglas Wicker of Seagrove and Jerry Wicker of Randleman; brothers, Howard O'Briant of Siler City and Paul O'Briant of Liberty; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
Shirley A. Williams
RANDLEMAN - Shirley A. Williams, 68, died Saturday, April 19, 2008, at her home in Randleman School Commons.
A memorial service was held April 23, 2008, at Grays Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Douglas Miller officiating.
She was a native of Grays Chapel.
Surviving are her daughter, Dawn Shackelford of McLeansville; brother, Jesse Bernard Williams of Burlington; one grandchild; one great-grandson.

She was a native of Boaz, Ala., was retired from Westview Manor Nursing Home and was of the Protestant faith.
Surviving are daughter, Alice Girod of Asheboro; sons, Stephan Van Zile of Asheboro and Joel Van Zile of Akron, Ohio; sisters, Ruth Popkes of Texas and Jackie Gann of Seagrove, Texas; brothers, Harvey Wofford of Alabama and David Wofford of Orlando, Fla.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
