Barry Baum
DENTON – Barry Moody Baum, 52, died Friday, April 4, 2008, at Thomasville Medical Center.
The funeral was held April 6, 2008, at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Vern Peterson officiating.
Burial was in Mountain View Memorial Gardens.
He was a native of Randolph County and had been employed with Council Craftsman Furniture.
Surviving are his wife, Joy Shaw Baum of the home; daughter, Amanda Baum of the home; brothers, Michael Baum of Denton and Kelly Baum of Lexington.
Paul E. Beane
ASHEBORO – Paul Edward Beane, 86, of Asheboro, died Friday, April 4, 2008, at Randolph Hospital.
The funeral was held April 6, 2008, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Maurice Kennedy officiating.
Burial was in Hopewell Friends Meeting Cemetery.
He was a native of Randolph County, co-owner/operator of Seagrove Superette and served in the Merchant Marines in World War II.

Alvertia C. Brower
RAMSEUR – Alvertia Cheek Brower, 82, of 400 Vision Drive, formerly of 450 Pinewood Circle, Ramseur, died Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at Randolph Hospital.
The funeral was held April 5, 2008, at Outreach Mission Church in Ramseur with Pastor Eva Curtis officiating. Burial was a later date.
She was a native of Orange County and a homemaker.
Surviving are her daughter, Mary Brower of Ramseur; sister, Classie Cheek of Ramseur; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
Frances P. Burkhart
ASHEBORO – Frances Lois Pearce Burkhart, 85, of 2104 Lamar Drive, Asheboro, died Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.
The funeral was held April 4, 2008, at Balfour Baptist Church in Asheboro with the Rev. Tim Lowry and the Rev. James Stephen (Bud) Parrish officiating.
Burial was in Randolph Memorial Park in Asheboro.
She was a native of Asheboro, the widow of James Wesley Burkhart, formerly employed with Belk-Yates and at the North Asheboro Junior High School cafeteria, and was a member of Balfour Baptist Church.
Surviving are her daughter, Lynn B. Perry of Trinity; sons, Raymond Pearce Burkhart of the home and James Perry of Archdale; sisters, Edna Heath and Lucy Parrish, both of Greensboro, and Bonnie Davenport of Asheboro; one grandchild.

Woodrow L. Caudill
ASHEBORO – Woodrow Long Caudill, 94, of 787 McDermott St., Asheboro, died Sunday, March 30, 2008, at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.
The funeral was held April 2, 2008, at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Barry L. Queen officiating.
Burial was in Randolph Memorial Park.
He was a native of Statesville, the widower of Jessie Auman Caudill and Stella Reeder Caudill, retired owner of Caudill Grocery in Robbins, a member of Central United Methodist Church and the Robbins Masonic Lodge #555.
Surviving are his son, John L. Caudill of Robbins; daughter, Rose Ann Seawell of Asheboro; stepson, David Burrow of Thomasville; stepdaughter, Bonnie Bradham of Greensboro; brothers, Baines Caudill of Asheboro, Vance Caudill of Candor and Mitchell Caudill of Asheboro; sisters, Annie Mae Kern of Seagrove and Virginia Owens of Raleigh; 10 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild.

LIBERTY – Lonnie R. Clapp of New Street died Saturday, March 29, 2008, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro.
A graveside service was held April 2, 2008, at Amos Grove Cemetery in Liberty.
Surviving are daughters, Donna McCoy of Greensboro and Jamie Clapp of Liberty; sons, Tony Bartell of Greensboro and Lonnie Clapp Jr. of Liberty; sisters, Jeanette Patterson, Ruth Garner, Faye Clapp, Wanda Clapp, Darlene Clapp, all of Liberty, and Quenne Sloan of Greensboro; brothers, Nelson Clapp Jr., Phil Clapp, James Clapp and Otis Clapp, all of Liberty; two grandchildren.
Jack R. Cook
ASHEBORO – Jack Ray Cook, 79, of 310 Sunrise Ave., Asheboro, died Friday, April 4, 2008, at Randolph Hospital.
The funeral was held April 6, 2008, at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Norman Livengood officiating. Burial was in South Plainfield Friends Meeting Cemetery in Sophia with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
He was a native of Rockingham County, a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and was retired from Sears in Greensboro.
Surviving are his wife, Jewell York Cook of the home; daughters, Linda Cowan of Randleman and Diana Lynch of Greensboro; son, Ronald Cook of Winston-Salem; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

John F. Dorman
ASHEBORO – John Franklin Dorman, 69, of 6939 Old N.C. 13, Asheboro, died Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation in Asheboro.
The funeral was held April 4, 2008, at Grace Baptist Temple with Pastor Marc Myers officiating. Burial was in Randolph Memorial Park.
He was a native of Randolph County, an independent operator and drove for Paschall Trucking in Murray, Ky.
Surviving are his wife, Lois Dorman of Asheboro; daughters, Donna Seay of Asheboro and Marie Albright of Seagrove; sister, Eva Lukomski of Cross Lane, W.Va.; brother, Jim Allred of Asheboro; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Clara R. Hipp
ASHEBORO – Clara Elizabeth (Betty) Rinehart Hipp, 91, died Saturday, April 5, 2008, at Randolph Hospital.
Burial was in Mansfield Cemetery in Ohio.
She was the widow of Halsey Eugene Hipp, previously lived in Mansfield, Ohio, and Englewood, Fla., and more recently at Crossroad Retirement Community and Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation in Asheboro.
Surviving are her son, Roger E. Hipp of Hull, Mass.; sister, Catherine Rinehart Miller of Asheboro; three grandchildren.
Lester Jarrell
ARCHDALE – Howard Lester Jarrell, 82, of Archdale, died March 31, 2008, at his home.
The funeral was held April 3, 2008, at First Pentecostal Holiness Church in High Point with Rev. Grover Jarrell officiating. Burial was in Randolph Memorial Park with military honors.
He was a native of Star, an active member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church, retired from the City of High Point as a fleet supervisor and a U.S Army veteran of World War II, where he received the Purple Heart.
Surviving are his wife, Fredricka C. Jarrell of the home; daughters, Fonda L. Evans of Archdale, Barbara A. Lockhart of Trinity, Linda F. Byrd of Sophia and Cindy Parrish of Archdale; son, Howard L. Jarrell Jr. of Archdale; sisters, Dixie Mae Way and Tula Faye Luther, both of Asheboro; brothers, Max Jarrell and Clay Jarrell, both of Asheboro; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.
Dora M. Kennedy
SEAGROVE – Dora Esther McNeill Kennedy, 87, of 1347 Willie Road, died Saturday, April 5, 2008, at FirstHealth Montgomery Hospital in Troy.
The funeral was held April 8, 2008, at Smyrna United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Tal Madison officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
She was a native of Randolph County and was retired from Milliken Co.
Surviving are her daughters, Helen Brewer of Seagrove; brothers, Richard McNeill of Vass and Roy McNeill of Bennett; sisters, Maxine Ritter of Robbins and Lorene Hussey of Ramseur, Nettie Reynolds of Robbins and Rillie Turner of Candor; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Harold D. Land Jr.
ASHEBORO – Harold David Land Jr., 40, of 3586 Kindley Farm Road, died Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at Randolph Hospital.
No services were held. He was a native of Kissimmee, Fla., and worked as a salesman.
Surviving are his father, Harold David Land Sr. of New Port; mother, Helen Diane Spinson of Lexington; brother, Roman G. Land of Salisbury; stepbrothers, Jerry L. Bowman of Salisbury and Lawrence D. Perdue of Lexington; stepsisters, Patricia Diane Land and Stephanie Land, both of High Point, and Candis Pauley of Jacksonville.
Doris D. Lanier
SOPHIA – Doris “Dotty” Davis Lanier, 72, of 7517 U.S. 311, Sophia, died Thursday, April 3, 2008, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.
A graveside service was held April 5, 2008, at Marlboro Friends Meeting Cemetery in Sophia with the Rev. John Sides officiating.
She was a native of Randolph County, a retired farmer and a member of Marlboro Friends Meeting.
Surviving are her husband, Lowell Lanier; son, Jim Lanier of Randleman; daughter, Cathy Hunt of Sophia; sister, Peggy Farlow of Sophia; two grandchildren.

ASHEBORO – Francisco Lopez, 61, of 741 S. Church St., Apt. A, died Monday, March 31, 2008, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro.
The funeral was held April 3, 2008, at Bailey’s Grove Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.
He was a native of Mexico and a furniture worker.
Surviving are wife, Margarita Gaspar Lopez of the home; children, Francisco Lopez, Maria Cortes, Alejandro Lopez and Teresa Lopez, all of Asheboro, Pedro Lopez of Altus, Okla., Balbina Lopez and Chela Lopez, both of Houston, Texas, and Cayetano Lopez and Sinplicia Lopez, both of South Carolina.
Jimmy Maness
ASHEBORO – James Edward “Jimmy” Maness, 56, of 730 Gold Hill Road, Asheboro, died Monday, March 31, 2008, at Randolph Hospital.
A graveside service was held April 2, 2008, at Randolph Memorial Park with the Rev. Lois Johnson officiating.
He was a native of Lexington and was formerly employed with Cookson Fibers in Asheboro.
Surviving are his wife, Sue Efird Maness; daughters, Tina Tunstall of Loris, S.C., and Mary Beth Maness of the home; sons, James Ray Maness and Chris Maness, both of Randleman, and Jonathan Michael Maness of the home; sisters, Linda Maness and Carol Maness, both of Asheboro; two grandchildren.
Karen K. McKinney
NEBO – Karen Kirkman McKinney, 50, of Laurel Pointe Drive, Nebo, died Monday, March 31, 2008, at her home.
The funeral was held April 3, 2008, at El Bethel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mark Denton, Rev. April Abernethy and Rev. Gary Moger officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery.
She was a native of Randolph County, attended Western Piedmont Community College, was a graduate of UNC in Greensboro, and was formerly employed with Grace Hospital and Mission Memorial Hospital in Asheville.
Surviving are her husband, Randy McKinney of the home; daughter, Jill McKinney of Morganton; stepdaughter, Kristi Byers of Morganton; father, Roy F. Kirkman of Randleman; mother, Margaret S. Cox of Asheboro; brother, Kevin Cox of Asheboro; sisters, Kim Kirkman of Holden Beach and Lisa Edmisten of Bear Creek; grandmothers, Beulah Kirkman and Leona Stockwell, both of Randleman; two grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren.

He was a native of Buchanon County, W.Va., and formerly employed with Woodell Paint and Drywall and Prestige Fabricators.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Lanier Russell of the home; sons, Jeff Pack of Franklinville and Henry Pack of Asheboro; daughter, Karen Lee Stutts of Asheboro; brother, Tommy Pack of Asheboro; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
Daisy W. Sheppard
PLEASANT GARDEN – Daisy Alene Wilson Sheppard, 92, died Thursday, April 3, 2008, at Clapp’s Nursing Center.
The funeral was held April 6, 2008, at Friendly Baptist Church in Climax. Burial was in Gilmore Memorial Park with the Rev. Richard Hedgecock officiating.
She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Marvin “Howell” Sheppard, a homemaker and a member of Friendly Baptist Church.
Surviving are her daughter, Toni Davis of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; sons, Terry Sheppard of Climax and Bruce Sheppard of Pleasant Garden; sister, Lesia Wilson Nelson; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Dixie C. White
RAMSEUR – Dixie Craven White, 89, of 494 York St., Ramseur, died Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.
The funeral was held April 8, 2008, at First Christian Church in Ramseur with the Rev. Garry Arnett officiating. Burial was in Sunset Knoll Cemetery.
She was a native of Randolph County, a homemaker and a member of First Christian Church of Ramseur, where she was a member of the Women’s Fellowship.
Surviving are her husband, Jack H. White of the home; daughters, Jackie White Rawlings of Franklinville and Ann White Spencer of Charlottesville, Va.; brother, Robert B. Craven of Denton; sisters, Zelma C. Maness and Ruth McAlister, both of Ramseur, and Shirley C. Trogdon and Mary C. Brooks, both of Asheboro; one grandchild.
