Voters of the North Asheboro-Central Falls Sanitary District voted 316 to 172 Saturday for a bond issue to build water and sewer facilities.
Commissioners of the district said they hope to issue plans to prospective bidders on the $1.7 million in bonds within the next month. Construction is expected to begin in about 90 days.
Engineering estimates indicate spending would be as follows: $744,000 for sewage collection mains, outfalls and a pumping station; $456,000 for water distribution and storage; and $537,000 for a sewage disposal plant.
To retire the debt, it has been proposed that the tax rate be increased from 15 to 50 cents per $100 valuation.
In addition, the minimum water charge for residents of the district would be increased to $1.85 and to $2.25 for outside residents.
